CAPTION COMPETITION!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 12, 2003 5:23 AM
I thought I´d add some humor.. Here´s a piccy of a Land Rover 101FC-GS, an ex British army artillery dragger, enjoying its retirement days in civilian use.. Also makes a good subject for a caption compo..

Lets see what everyone can make of it..

The judges give it a 9.1 for lack of distance clearing the hill.

1. Sensing a vertical wall in their immediate future, the guys thought it a good time to check out the new brakes.

2. Hey, if dirt bikes can do it, we can, too!

After installing a handful of Ford Mustang parts, Bob and Geoffs Landy started to act rather perculier, bucking and running into hay bails..

A trip to the dentist, $3,500. A trip to the plastic surgeon $12,500. The look on the man's face that said it couldn't be done. Priceless.

1/ Look Ma, no hands! Look Ma, no teeth!
2/ So we were out of ammo and we decided to lob the gun at the enemy

P.S. A popular conversion on the 101 is to fit a range Rover V8! frightening!
(Not a lot of people know that)

Its no conversion, the 3.5 litre 135hp V8 is standard. Land Rover used the same engine in the early Range Rovers, the 109 Stage 1, the 90's, 110's, early Defenders and early Discovery´s and the Llama prototype.. Its also found in various Rover family cars, just different state of tuning. Rather popular piece of kit. By the way, all classic American car lovers would like to know that its actually just a 3.5 chevy small block...

I did a little research on Land Rovers before I went and bought one.. :D

Yeah,
But it's an alloy block - not cast iron. We put a Rover 3.5 litre (an SD block with the neoprene triple lip crank seals) in my father-in-law's Jaguar MkII.
It goes like stink (that means it drives very well, thank you).
Cheers,

Actually the ally Rover block is not based on the small block Chevy although it is a GM design......it is in fact an Oldsmobile, the alloy "B.O.P." engine of the early 1960's. When GM could no longer absorb the higher cost and unfamiliarity of the aluminum block the design and tooling was sold to Rover in Blighty and they have cranked 'em out since. A much better design than GM's second aluminum engine, the ever popular and reknowned VEGA!

This engine has powered everything from TVR to Morgans and a whole lot of kit/replica cars in the UK.

Well.. I knew it was based on an American engine, so I stand corrected, but at least it was ballpark... I'm not all that big on anything else other than Land Rover. Sad really.

Ho yes its the reason my wife won't go offroading with me anymore. the front of the rangie took off followed by the back which threw the front down HARD as well as the affore mentiond damage it also bent a steering rod and hurt like hell for a few hours but to testify for the strength of the vehicle i still drove it 26 miles home and it only took about 4 hours to repair
