Your stash
Posted by hwells on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 6:04 PM
Hi all.

I have been putting together a program for my club, the Oklahoma Historical Modelers Society. It is titled 'Your Stash". Basically, what I have been doing is getting pictures of club member's work areas, where they store their models, etc. I would like to expand on this some, and if any one in the forum would like to contribute a pic or two of where you build, or your stash of those new DML Tigers under the bed, they would be greatly appreciated. I will make sure that any picture contributed isn't used for anything other than this and if the individual desires, full credit will be given as to who's pic it is. I do need them by Friday afternoon though(7-15-05). They can be posted here I guess, or get my email from my profile and send em to me.

BTW, here is my work bench, and some of my 'stash'

thanks in advance

Henry

Thanks Anthony! Even just a pic of where you build. Who knows, we may see some good ideas as to how someone sets up their Dremel, or airbrush, or how they store tools, paint or whatever.

These are a little out of date, since I've added a few kits to the stash, but here they are:

I finally have a space big enough to sort out all my kits. I'm about 65-75% complete and just need to get some more shelf units. The silver metal ones you see in the photos were only $3.50 a piece at Wal-Mart. I've been searching for some more of them at local stores.

Now that is what I call a stash, Rob!

Is it true that the more space you have for kits, the more kits you get until they fill the available space? Isn't that one of Newton's Laws? Or is it Murphy?

I have to admit, the pic of my workbench was taken just after a desperately needed clean-up. It's a lot more cluttered right now.

Here's my painting/storage area:

The kits represent about 3/4 of my comparatively small stash; the others are still at my parents house.

The pins placed in the top of the cabinet doors help secure a piece of shelf, which serves as a work area while painting (I thought I had a picture with the shelf in place, but I can't find it). The compressor can (or at least used to ) fit on the bottom shelf, but I've gotten lazy, so now it remains as shown. Building occurs on my dining table/desk (not shown).

Apolgies to the dial-ups for their large size, but the post title should have been a clue that (lots of big) pictures were going to be present.

Edit - well, I shrunk them down. Geocities apparently put me in a time-out for exceeding that limit; pictures will hopefully re-appear soon.

"Apolgies to the dial-ups for their large size, but the post title should have been a clue that (lots of big) pictures were going to be present."

You might want to size them down. You went past your Geocities allocated data transfer.

Rob, do you plan on actually building all those kits? You might just find a second hobby, woodworking, and make yourself some nice new display cases.

I'll try to some pictures tonight. My room is a mess right now and my modeling desk is broken beyond repair. I just have to spruce it up a bit. I used to build on a card table, but my cat jumped on it and somehow managed to break a leg. That's what I get for getting the cheap one. I currently have only 20 models in my stash, 2 of them I'm not probably going to build. My spray booth is my barn. Of course I don't do much spray work. I prefer to paint by hand.

Well, this is the umpteenth time for this, but here goes... again... these shots are about a year, year and a half old...

Despite the calendar date, these next two shots were taken around the same time as the rest...

Here's the summer bench...

Here's the winter bench... although it may become a permanent thing...

Here's the mini-bench...

However, every once in a while I like to build on the kitchen table...

Here's the guardian of the shop...

Here's the reason I need a shop guardian...

Here's the view out the shop window...

Here are some of my most used modeling implements...

Some folks don a respirator while spraying, to avoid ingesting the fumes. I go a step further...

Despite the fact that I have a sizable reference library, I go to as many airshows as I can to grab some detail shots...

THE END

Fade to Black...

Was it the cat or the table that ended up with a broken leg?

Blackwolf, I loved your pictures. I'm going to have to get myself one of those chain saws; unfortunately firecrackers are illegal here in Arizona.Big Smile [:D]

The program I put together, 'Your Stash' went very well last night. About five club members took the time to share with the club. We were able to see a personal glimpse into this great hobby of ours. A very big ThankYou to everyone here who took the time to do this.

Sincerely

Henry

what about insurance on the collections

some of these collections are better than small lhs - no offence to any small lhs owners. No photo's of my stash, but about 130ish unfinished models - mainly 350th ships and heaps upon heaps of a/c 48ers.

oh yeah . . . with the stash, keep up the good work!
