other the your normal genre of models

which genre of modeling do you consider easyist and the hardest

to start off i am a general modeler and will do anything in plastic,

i find cars to be the easyist because (generally) they have fewer parts and for the most part never any filling to do because the seams are generally supposed to be there and the parts are for the most part bigger too

i find ships the hardest lots of small pcs and the rigging

I build armor models mainly but also build a lot of sci-fi kits. Both are relatively easy, but sci-fi is easier because depending on the subject, you can't really be wrong.

Have no idea.  Less that two months into this hobby.  Building a D.H. Mosquito (first model that I have ever attempted).  Let you know when I have tried others.

From reading this forum and a couple of magazines, I never realized that there was such a vast variety of interests.  The pictures, I have looked at on this site, I wonder, how long have these people into this hobby.  I only hope to get half as good.

Easiest has to be figures. In some cases, there are no parts to assemble and only one mold seam to clean up. Others may be only 3, 4, or 5 pieces...so it's really easy.

Hardest for me would be sailing ships due to the rigging...it can drive you nuts!

Tongue [:P]That depends on what you mean by "easy" or "hard"! I have built almost every type, but do almost exclusively armor now. I think that anything having to do with gloss enamels--cars in particular--are a nightmare for me. I built a fully-rigged USS Constitution; and curiously didn't really mind the rigging. Planes are fairly easy to do OOB, but a real masterpiece can be a real challenge.I do paint many figures, and always need a stiff shot before attemptind a face painting on the older Tamiya molds-ugh! the faces are pretty bland! To me, an OOB armor kit of Tamiya's fine current line is a fairly easy build, depending on the tank. But the new DML hyper-detailed kits can be a real mountain to climb to the uninitiated. For me though, a tank with full interior and photo-etch accessory parts is the ultimate challenge, but welcome for an armor nut like me.Mischief [:-,]I have to say that the "hardest" kits to do are the ones with really lousy molding, where no matter what you do the saems and lines just don't match up and you wind up just discouraged that you spent your time on a fool's errand!

Hard - anything airfix. Wink [;)]

Easy - armor, if you screw up the paint, cover it with weathering.

Hard - cars, if you screw up the paint, you ARE screwed.

I build armor and Warhammer figures, so here are my two cents:

Hilariously easy: Sci-fi scratchbuilding. Fun, relaxing, completely unconstrained by rules and did I mention fun?

Easy: Reading Tamiya instructions. Building 40k stuff. Easy because the things have all the complexity of a brick (they need to be durable enough to withstand repeated handling, throwing dice at it and/or being dropped by Unsupervised Game Store Kid, my arch-nemesis).

Moderately hard: Cleaning mould lines and filling seams, working with photoetch components.

Hard: Painting figures. Gluing photoetch components (at least three times harder than bending the little sods)

Very hard: Painting vehicles (with a brush, mind you). Reading Dragon instructions

Inconceivably hard: Painting anything clean and/or with gloss finish, like cars.

For me, cars are the most difficult. I have never (nor will I ever) master the art of producing an ultra-smooth gloss finish. Guess that explains why all the cars in my collection are diecast. I like cars (I just hate to paint them).

Hard ='s that lovely extra Flash you find on some kits.

Easy=s Clean Flash-free kits

note I didn't include the painting and such Laugh [(-D].

I have done both SciFi and Cars I like em both for different reasons but that high-gloss smooth finish is what I am trying hard to learn. I will get it someday, maybe not today but someday.

Armor kits are the easiest to build and paint.  For me, building figures is relatively easy too, but painting them is the most difficult part.  Aircraft seems to be very difficult to build and paint.

I have two primary areas:1/35 armor and 1/48 aircraft, but I also dabble in real space, sci fi, ships, and cars. Each area has it's own harder and easier kits/area in my experience(brass photo etch, resin, and indy track links come to mind). But yes, if it's plastic, and it appeals to me, I will take a shot at it. My name is Carlos and I'm a plastiholicBig Smile [:D]
