Plans for RB-36H Peacemaker

I did a dry fit of a couple of those 1.5 volt motors this morning.  There is plenty of room in the B-36 engine nascelle to fit the electric motors.  Every time I bought a motorised ship kit, I ended up with a spare motor and a switch+ battery box.  You will need to lay a bed of something to cradle the motor and get it level (silastic/silicon ?) 

 The propellor retainer slots into two holes anyway,  so that should keep things rigid up the prop end. Once you have the prop shaft thru the prop hub, that should give you an idea how high up to bed the motor- how far you have the motor away from the prop is up to you.  The empty inner from a ball point pen is the perfect size to slip over and CA glue onto the shaft of the motor, so you can have the motor as far fore or aft as you want, bearing in mind you may need to support the prop shaft if it gets too long.  I imagine too much vibration would be a bad thing.

  Dont try wiring each motor to its neighbour, run all positive and negative wires together and then join them each to a single wire before they reach the switch/battery box.  You will have plenty of wiring running through the wing roots into the fuselage, so route them out of the way so the wing halves will go together smoothly ! Luckliy, the B-36 has a cavernous bomb bay, like the B-29, so plenty of room for the switch and batteries.  Use some sheet styrene to cover them up if you like.   Good luck with it !

Could you guys possibly lend some insight into motorizing the B36.  I have that model still in the box and plan to build it(one of these days).  It will actually be my 3rd attempt in about 20 years to build this kit.  My plan is to motorize andmaybe add lights to it.  I'm far from being a pro at this but not quite a novice.  I'v built my share of models over the years, just not as finely detailed as I plan on doing this one.

I would appreciate any help, insight and tips on this model that you are willing to give me.

wow...I thought I was only one that did that stuff. some 20 years ago, I built the B-36. During construction, I happened to be down at the local surplus store and found a bunch of small motors. Being a kid with an over-active imagination and a growing love of electronics, I bought 6 of them and they went in beautifully. That thing could generate some wind.

Sorry to hear you pulled out of that Size Matters GB.  I have almost finshed my B29 (masking the nose canopy is NOT fun)  Got to take a deep breath and dive into that B36 box for the SAC group build.  I'm seriously considering motorizing it, as I did the B29, although I will need to scout around for some smaller motors.

I actually haven't built it yet.  I had intended to build it for the size matters GB, but have been busy with other projects.  I must admit though that after having pulled out the directions to scan them, I'm interested in building this kit soon.  It is a pretty impressive kit, that B-36 is huge!!!!  As far as the walkway lines, I think I may try to mask and spray those... should be interesting to say the least.
