As it stands right now, the Hornet is being towed into position for its cat shot, with the jet blast deflector raised and deck crew around to guide it into position. For its age, the Fujimi kit (F-14A along with the carrier deck, tractors and crew) is fairly well detailed, and includes a plain tractor in addition to the fire engine one.

A few quick pics. I'm still trying to pound the carrier deck base into submission. It's stubbornly wanting to look pristine and new, instead of end of deployment worn ... but that's what multiple washes are for! I have exactly two and a half days to finish this little guy. Hats off to you guys who do 1/144 all the time, I think it likely that I would go insane.

I was thinking about these this morning afte I asked how they looked.  How big are these things?  Without having any idea I just looked at what 5" would be.  At 1/144 scale that would be a dot .034"... basically 1/32". That's pretty darn small. Without even seing it I am sure my 1st idea did nto look good.  I am thinking paint the dot and with a sharp balde , and a stong maginfier, just scribe an X on it and highlight with a pin wash if needed.

EDIT... I just sanded the end of a toothpick flat and made a dozen dots of steel paint on black plastic about they are probably closer to 1/16"  than 1/32. If you get the size right, from a normal viewing disatnce... you will never see that 5 point pattern, much less be able to even get it on there.  I would just go with muted dot of color.

That's what the wine is for...her! You too once you have gotten control over SWMBO.

In 28 years of marriage, there is no SWMBO in this house...and I can say that with a straight face too! She supports my interests in my hobby!

Is a "pad eye" the things in the deck used for the tie downs?  I alwaya thought those were called "thing in the deck for the tie downs.

I am going agree and tell you to drop the wire...BUT... make the eye pads.  Put down little dots of steel paint. make a stencil with a cheap leather punch set from Michael's and spray them all at once.  Then take a small Phillips screwdrive and push the point in the center and highlight with a wash.
