Like to build those old kits, both Monogram/Revell and Aurora(sometimes they can be found done by a different companty). I don't really have any favorites.

Tigerman,

The builds I get nostalgic about were BIG scale (most likely 1/25 ?)  A king tiger and a Hummell.  Would love to acquire them again but I cant even remember the manufacturer.  I'm thinking they weren't 1/16 as this was in the late '70's and 1/16 was a little unknown then wasnt it ?

Paul.

Might they have been 1/16 Bandai? Or perhaps Tamiya, Academy, or even Nichimo? I'm not that up-to-date on larger scales.

Monogram certainly wins in my mind as well, but hard to pick a favorite. There were the rainy days after school (not that frequent of an occurance in Southern California) when I would come home and my dad would have some form of Monogram 1/32 armor kit waiting for me to keep me occupied on occasion. Or the Christmases where the big gift was the latest large 1/48 aircraft, B-17, B-24, C-47, or the 1/72 B-52. Seeing any of those kits at either a kit collector show or as a  reissue always brings a smile to my face.

Hard to pick a favorite in 55+ years.  I've got several of the early Monogram aircraft to build again.  Revell re-released a couple of their 1956 1/32 cars, that I had built, a few years ago.  That brought back memories, so I bought them.  I built a couple Lindberg Stukas as a kid.  Saw one of those a while back, and got it.  My stash goes back 25 or 30 years.  If I build something out of the early part of it, would that be nostalgic?

These were all built when I was a kid.  You can see minimal painting, tracks, headlights, water lines on ships.  My kids played with them, also.  I might try to restore them some day.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Did you see that Accurate Miniatures had re-released that, along with a 1/72 P-40? Even has the original instructions. I've been eye-balling that at the LHS for a while.

I would love another crack at building Don Garlits' 1/24(25?) front-engined dragster, the last one he drove (in 1970) before he moved the engine behind him. It was the first really detailed kit I built as a kid, and loved every minute of it. I remember using sewing thread for some 'fuzzy' ignition wires, and for the parachute release cables and fuel lines. Man, that was some fun! Tommy Ivo's front-engined digger was also a blast!

I rebuilt one of my first armor kits, the Aurora MBT70, with a parts kit I got off of eBay for $5. That was fun rebuilding that old kit. I really enjoyed myself.

But one kit I slapped together from my childhood (not really a nostalgic kit) was the original Luke Skywalker X-Wing fighter by MPC. While it pales in comparison to the tiny Fine Molds kit, I like building it 30 years ago and thought it was a fun, simple build.

I'd like to build the Monogram B-17G again someday. I looked at that kit in the Sears catalog until the ink started wearing off the page. I was so happy when I opened it up Christmas morning of 1978.

It had detail like I'd never seen, and seemed so huge. And that diorama brochure- the one by Shepherd Paine- wow! I still am in awe of his work.

Really I've got several that have some special memory attached with them, but the Flying Fortress one really stands out to me now.

i  wish i could have and revell /monogram  saturn v rocket

and they made this model that consisted of a base  with some 30/36 rockets and missles  standing upright on the base  with a man of about 3/4 of an inch in height on the base as well to show the relative size of each missle/rocket

i did both as a kid, and now could do a much better job on them i i had them

Ah, some of those were shinin' times!

Cool Ross. If you can find it, post it for fun. I wish I had some of my older kits to post for the heck of it.

Don't I ever resemble that remark!!!Thumbs Up [tup]

Any time I hear Monogram, it just takes me back to my childhood. I started out building their airplanes, then moved along to armor. I suppose it's a toss-up between their Wildcat (purchased for a hard earned $1 at Kmart) and Panzer IV. Each holds a special memory for me. The Panzer IV was my first real armored vehicle of any kind and I built it in one evening, sans paint. Oh it wasn't pretty, but the magic it spelled on me was. I haven't turned away from armor ever since. That was 30 years ago. Whistling [:-^]

So lets hear yours. Smile [:)]
