My ultimate goal in modeling - if I really have one - is to build one model for every piece of major ground equipment used in WWII (armor, guns, softskins) by any nation. Therefore, I generally limit myself to one kit for each model and variant I'm planning to build. At some point I may go back and rebuild a "replacement" model particularly if a greatly improved kit gets released (ie, a new Matilda for example), but it would simply be to improve upon the old kit, nothing to do with favorites. |

on that note FOSTER, what about duplicate models IE; an american sherman and a lend lease russian sherman? |

I've already built an M4A3(76)W American Sherman and if I do build a Lend-Lease Russian Sherman, it will likely be a unique M4A2 variant (either a 75mm or 76mm). So technically, while one could say I'm planning to build 14 Shermans (or more), they should all be slightly different variants. The same would be true for my Tiger I models. I'll probably end up with five representing the versions Initial, Early, Mid, Late, and Final. Again, this will have nothing to do with a vehicle being a "favorite"...just the types of vehicles produced.
Since I'm now starting to dabble in dioramas, I likely will have a few (very few) duplicate models because there will undoubtedly be a repeat build needed to represent a specific scene. I can easily see several Jeeps or GMC Trucks being built if I end up constructing numerous American dioramas. There could also be duplicate "knocked out" tanks or other pieces of equipment needed in some scenes. It won't make these vehicles favorites of mine - just necessary.
I can understand a modeler finding a favorite subject and building it over and over. I had a buddy in high school...many, many years ago...who must have built at least 20 Peterbuilt trucks. He loved those things! For me, the fun is in building something different every time, but that's just me...
