Great work, Matt. I have the MPM kit in 1/72 built up for exactly the same reason. It's a quirky looking little thing.

Love them, Matt.. Cool models, interesting subjects. The Komet must be the airplane I've modeled most. How was the Academy kit? I have it, but haven't started it yet. My Komet experience is still with Airfix, Hasegawa, Heller, Tamiya, Lindberg and Italeri...

Matt, very nice XP-55. Experimental fighters are my modeling niche and I always love to see them built up. Once again very nice and thank you for sharing.

Isn't it cool? I love off-beat experimental stuff like this.

The XP-55 was real, but never got past the experimental stage. Making its first flights in 1943, the aircraft was dangerously unstable at low speeds and had vicious stall characteristics. Two of the three Ascender prototypes were destroyed in crashes; the only surviving example is in storage at the Smithsonian's Paul Garber Facility in Silver Hill, Maryland.

If you're interested in building this kit, I reviewed it in the January 2001 FSM, and this review's online if you don't have back issues handy.

Here's another shot, from the front:

And the real thing:

One thing I love about this board is seeing stuff I've never seen before. For example, the Curtiss XP-55 Ascender. Was that real? A prototype or hypothetical? Would it or did it actually fly? That is so weird. If I didn't know better, I would swear that's how my attempt at a regular plane would end up looking. Wink [;)]

Thanks for listing all that contact info, David!

LightSheet doesn't have a web site, but as David points out, you can e-mail Mike Emery at the TrekFX@aol.com address and he'll send you a .pdf version of the catalog/info sheet.

Mike's a great guy and very knowledgeable about the product. When I built my Falcon, I called the company and told him what I was thinking about doing. He helped me set up a LightSheet system that was exactly right for the project. I love lighting models, but I'm no electronics expert, so that really helped. All I had to do was pull the components out of the solder them together -- everything worked perfectly.

If you drop him a note, tell him the folks at FSM sent you!

These were one piece moldings -- the main pieces come on sprues and the base is separate. The flag bearer was a couple of pieces. There are larger lizardmen warriors which do come in 3-4 pieces and the base.

These were 5th edition. Looking at the companies website, it appears they've redesigned the figs now. Evil [}:)] The picture below is of the sprue for the new ones. It looks like the arms are separate pieces now. [:0]

A typical unit for the skinks is like 24, plus standard bearer, musician, and leader/hero. And that's just a single unit. Black Eye [B)]

Here are a couple more shots of my wife's work. These were her first miniatures she's ever painted. She said they looked like they would be fun to paint and jumped right in. Aside from the fact it meant less for me to paint (which when it comes to masses of miniatures, it's a good thing), I'm really proud of the results. I was pleasantly surprised how well they turned out.

Then there's my stuff. Blush [:I]

The funny thing about when we were painting these. Here I was, reading all the painting tips in the different Warhammer Guides, White Dwarf and their website. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly -- worrying about getting getting the techniques down and all the little details. Then my wife comes along, glances through a quick tutorial and off she goes. Within a couple of hours, she was done with the group of archers in the green and red tunics.

Here's one last pic to share for now. It's a closeup of the Skink leader.

I have yet to finish off his weapon. According to the "lore", the lizardmen typically fashioned weapons out of obsidian. That's kind of where I got "stuck" on this one. I needed to practice painting obsidian looking blades before I finished him off.

The leader and flag bearer are metal figs, while the rest are plastic. I really like painting the metal figs, but the cost factor is too great to have all metal figs.

Those look really good so far and so do your wifes. The lighting's not too bad on those pics either though they could be a little bigger ( so's we can pick 'em apart a little easier Wink [;)] ) Really though, they look great!!

I'm glad you have a sense of humor Dave or I'd probably be banned from the site, wouldn't I??? Big Smile [:D]

Alrighty....if I don't post something you won't stop. Evil [}:)]

Here's a pic of a group of Archers my wife has painted. She won't do the eyes tho'.

Here's a pic of a group of Skinks (little lizardmen) I've made some progress on, but just can't seem to finish.

The leader's sword isn't finished, along with some other finer details. The bases on both groups need to be finished off. Have yet to decide how I want to do it.

I didn't have the best of lighting so I apologize for the pics. I was in the basement with an overhead light, a lamp with a 40watt Reveal bulb and a tiny bit of sunlight. It's hard to get good lighting in the "dungeon". Wink [;)]

I have a ton of gray sprues. All washed and organized. Their miniatures which is more about quantity over quality. To get them all painted up to play Warhammer, it's more like an assembly line. But it's difficult to get into that mentality. I tend to take my time on each piece. After a couple of hours I look at what I have done and then look at the 20 other similiar pieces and get depressed. And that's just for a single regiment. There's more needed to complete the army.

We saw Lawrence's T-34 in the magazine, but we want to see some "personal" models as well.

As for you Dave, no excuses Tongue [:P] We would like to see what you've done so far though. Try again with the camera and show us what you got!! Big Smile [:D]

Lawrence recently built the T-34 for a weekend project. You can find it here:

As for myself, well...uhm...see it's like this...the dog ate it. Wink [;)]

Seriously, it seems I have a problem completing kits. I usually get stuck on the painting. I have so many models at various stages of painting, but none finished.

I took a couple of pictures last night, but they turned out too dark. It's been awhile since I used our digital camera and I forgot how touchy it was with lighting. I'll have to try it again tonight.

I'm glad you like it!

LightSheet comes in blue and white, and is actually much brighter and more vibrant than it appears in the photos. I haven't tried it yet, but from what I hear you can put translucent "gel" filters over the white sheet to make almost any color. It's essentially a thin (about .020"), flexible sheet of plastic that glows like neon.

And best of all, the folks at LightSheet are modelers, so they make several pre-packaged sets for popluar models. They offer a set for the Falcon, the Shuttle Tyderium, and several of the most-recent Star Trek Enterprises.

Great stuff.
