I too have the same sickness. I was in the Navy for 21 years and when I last left Japan I brought back 50 kits. I now have a place to build but I also have over 200+ kits. Figures, a little armor, wood sailing ships but mostly aircraft.

You're not alone!  Big Smile [:D]  I've got about 70+ kits that I've specifically bought for one reason or another.  Either I love the body lines of the car, it's a must-have kit, need this one for the parts, or IT'S MY GRAILE KIT!  LOL  We've all got kits that are lying in wait.  We could have worse addictions, and my wife is truly happy that I've rediscovered my hobby as of three years ago.  The only time she really voiced her concern was when I was on Evil-bay a year or so ago picking up out of production kits that were "must have's" in my collection to build.  Here's my pile of kits.

Too true. :) I don't say anything when she brings another pair of shoes home so I don't think she needs to say anything to me when I bring a kit home. She has many boxes full of shoes that she has never worn just like I have many kits on the shelf in my workroom. But like I said before, there are worse things that we could be addicted too and spending our money on.

Yes, and when we are working on our kits, we are at home and out of trouble. Angel [angel] That alone should get us no dirty looks when we come home with another kit (or buy one on ebay).

Oh my, ..............I couldn't help myself. I bought another kit. I bought a Revell 1/48 B-29 Superfortress.......the monster that I have wanted to build ever sice I was a kid almost 30 years ago. It is a rather large model and it will definately challenge me to the fullest.

The good news is I am starting my next build, a Revell B-17 Flying Fortress. We just moved into a new house and my wife has agreed to let me use the empty upstairs bedroom temporarily :) as a workspace. The garage is not ready for me yet. So at least I am beginning to build once again even though my stash is still growing.

Don't feel too bad. The last kit that I truly finished, was just before my son was born. I actually flat cloated it the day before we went to the hostipital. He will be three in August. The thing is...I realized sometime later that I forgot to paint the exterior color of the canopy. So even it isn't completely done. :(

Life seems to get in the way for me. I have come close to finishing a few but never completely yet. But I am working on it. Though I can't seem to finish them I keep buying and starting new projects. So not only am I a modelolic but I am a startolic to. One that starts project after project but doesn't seem to finish them. I plan to finish the current project and I really do think I will be able to do it...I really really do.

But as I said I am working it. I don't by that often anymore. I tried to tell myself to only buy when I finish one, well that didn't work. I seem to buy one for every two that I start. lol Which I guess is still alittle better. lol Anyway I think I would be buying even more if I had more buy to buy...money is tight right now..with two kids and debts to payoff...so that limits how often I can buy. But if I had the money I bet I would buying alot more often. Just wouldn't be able to stop myself.

At least we can admit to the problem and they say that is half the battle. lol But you know I don't care for any treatment...there could be far worse things we could be doing. Anyway, mmmm that Beaufighter will be fun...it won't hurt to look in the box..prep the resin replacement cockpit...oh dear maybe I do need help. lol

Too true!  I made a new year's resolution to not buy any more kits this year until I depleted the stash...that resolution lasted until mid-january when I just had to buy a couple of Gruppe Fehrman Tigers, a Panther G, some PE detail sets (do those even count as 'kits'?)...

Very funny....although true.....post John.

Had the same affliction myself during my last modeling bout.....25 years ago. This time around I set a limit and have been good about sticking to it.

Been back into it for 4 months now and am not buying anything until I post a completed model in these forums. The secret......take it from the box and build it!

Yes, your in over your head. My suggestion is you must give me at least 10 of them and call me in the morning. My wife thinks I have a problem, and I only have 9 in my stash. Yes it is uncurable..............Harv

I Have a Sickness and I Can't Help Myself
Posted by Wilky56 on Friday, March 7, 2008 10:28 PM

Hello Everyone,

I Have a sickness and I can't help myself. I have no control over this ailment. About 3 years ago I got back into modeling after a 20-year hiatus. I remember buying a few models, a new airbrush, some tools and paint and I built them. I built 3 jets, a couple of cars, and the Apollo Lunar Lander. My skills are not anywhere close to what I have seen of others work on here but they have improved since I was a kid. The problem I am having now is that when someone sees one of my planes hanging in my work room, they ask me if I am a model builder. The sad thing is I have to tell them no, I amnot a model builder, I am a model buyer. I have not built anything in about 2 years but have bought many kits in that time frame....about 35 to be exact. I can't help it, I see a kit that I want, I think it would look great on my shelf, and I buy it. I don't even know if I care anymore if I never build another one. I think the boxes look great on my shelf. I have big plans for each and every one of them but can't say when I will ever put them together. Thankfully I put a few dollars away here, a couple dollars there and fund my addiction. I keep telling myself I could be addicted to alot worse things. My wife doesn't understand it but, hey, she has 30 pairs of shoes and I see no difference. Does anyone have the same problem I have? Is there hope for me? Is 35 kits in a little over 2 -year span out of control or what?  But what the hey........my name is John and I'm a modelholic. :)
