APG Ordnance Museum move update
Posted by cwalker3 on Thursday, May 15, 2008 5:45 PM
The local paper had an article on the upcoming move of the APG Ordnance Museum. Ground is to broken in 2010 for the new location at Fort Lee, Va. Move in is scheduled for 2011. They said that roughly 50% of the armor/artillery pieces will remain at APG and become part of a smaller museum. The rest will move to Fort Lee to form the new Ordnance Museum.

They also said that Tank Row, a group of restored vehicles that used to line the main road, have been moved to other locations at the museum. That should mean that they are easier to access than before. And they said that a restored Elefant has been rolled out as will be a Nike missle by the end of the month.

So for those of you who haven't been, if you can get there, do so soon. You won't regret it and it may be your last chance to see all these great pieces in one place.

Thanks for the heads up; my brother is planning a special trip "north" and we will be making a tour of "military" museums in the MidAtlantic region next summer. Glad to hear APG-O Mus will still be operational, thanks

Thats a bummer to hear that they are moving that. I went through MOS school there and enjoyed seeing the old tanks and vintage wepons stored there. bummer they didnt have any LAV 25's though. Big Smile [:D]
Some people spend their whole lives wondering if they made a difference. Gundams don't have that problem.

Anthony, check out the parking situation before you go to the stadium. From what I've read, there is a minimum of parking at the stadium. They are encouraging people to take the subway there. And it's really a pretty bad neighborhood anyway so I don't know if I would even want to park my car there.

Yes,thank you I am on top of that,I will be staying near a metro station near Foggy Bottom and the Nats web site gives extensive instructions on how to use the metro to get there.I also hope to go to Air and Space and maybe the Navy Yard.
