Charles says his scratchbuilt Patriot missile launcher is about 1/32 scale: “When I first started this project, I decided to do only the launcher — the entire model would take lots of work and more space. Deciding on the scale was a little tough because I did not have any measurements of the system. The only thing I had to go by was a drawing of the missile canister. I took those measurements and scaled them to various sizes so I could make a choice. With the help of the few measurements I got off the Internet, and using ‘deductive scaling’ (a new term I made up), I decided on a scale close to 1/32. The canister on the base is slightly larger than 1/32, but it was meant to be just a separate display.”
