Otaki 1/48 scale Ki-84 - February 2013

Steve Barlow, Tucson, Arizona

Steve says: “I rescued this old Otaki 1/48 scale Ki-84 (Hayate, or Gale, Allied reporting name Frank) for $5 with no decals in 2010 solely for my first try at weathering with hairspray. I used a variety of paints, including Tamiya rattle-can gloss aluminum and Tamiya XF-13 green for the main of the aircraft. I started it in 2010 and finished it a week ago in honor of our honeymoon trip to Japan. AeroMaster decals worked perfectly, and I used an artist’s oil wash in both umber and white for rivet details. It was loads of fun and I learned a lot!”

Very Nice!!   I think you did a great job and just because the kit is older, does not mean it can't be built into a really eye catching piece.  Great job Steve.  I see you're in Tucson?   My son is based there at Davis-Monthan AFB.
