“This kit consists of six resin pieces sculpted by Joe Laudati, based on an episode of Doctor Who titled The Satan Pit,” says Greg. “The scale was not indicated on the kit, but from measurements taken of the figure of the Doctor, it appears to be approximately 1/48 scale.” Battery-powered pulsating LEDs illuminate the lava pit, while the demon’s face glows with a Starlight Productions yellow floodlight. Greg used crushed dolomite (used in saltwater aquariums) and coarse model railroad ballast to complement the kit’s lava-rock resin base, attaching the rubble with Alene’s Tacky Glue and a 1:1 mix of Elmer’s white glue and water. Greg painted with a combination of Testors Model Master enamels and Vallejo and Ceramcoat acrylic paints. A heavy wash of Ceramcoat black and water darkened recesses prior to dry-brushing.
