Revell Monogram 1/24 Bell Huey Gunship
Posted by gpal on Saturday, May 18, 2013 8:10 AM

Has anyone put the Revell 1/24 scale Huey gunship together ? If so does it make a decent model? Are there aftermarket parts for it? I wish more companies were making the larger Huey's.

Thanks in advance, George

George,

The Revell 1/24 kit dates back to the 60's I believe.  it represents and early UH-1B and the molds are derived from the old Phantom Huey kit.  By today's standards it is woefully lacking in detail.  That said, it does look like a Huey when you are done.  I don't know of any after market parts other than a few decals.  If you want a modern kit that requires a minimum of correction, I'd suggest the 1/35 MRC/Academy UH-1C kits.  Besides the fact that there are no scissor links on the rotor (a deficiency that ca be fixed easily) it builds into a good representation of the cHarlie model. Plus there are lots of AM goodies for it, including a Big Ed PE set.  HTH

Not discounting anything Ray said, I built one for a friend years ago, and remember it as a pretty trouble-free build. No aftermarket in my world back then, but I detailed it up a little with styrene sheet and rod and, as the man said, it looked the part.

Hello everyone,

I'm about to start building a Monogram 1/24 scale Bell Huey uh-1B kit and would like to convert it from a gunship to a medevac. I've have plenty of reference photos of this great helicopter, but have not come across any websites with threats on this type of conversion. If anyone know of one and could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Other than not arming it you have a solid kit to start from. You will just need to scratch build the litter system used back then on short bodies.

A couple years back I did up the Rambo version as an Ontario air ambulance. This is the link.

not much of a fly guy so I don't know about any inaccuracies in the kit.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick respond Snake36Bravo,

I was thinking of modifing the body on this helicopter so it could look like the longer body of the Huey  Uh-1D and was wondering if anyone had attempt this before on this particular model or any for that matter.
