US HELO DRAB

Interesting model, where did you find?

I live next to JBLM at WA.ST.-Know army people who deal w/this color.Its called-Black Olive Drab.Add three drops of flat black to each regular bottle of helo- drab or green- drab to create the effect.On Special forces helicopters ,they are flat slate black.Dry brush with a light color For worn effect.

XTracolor makes a great us army helo drab.  Hannants has them but they are hard to get hold of because the won't ship paints overseas.  I have a couple - pm me and I'll dig one out for you.

Mr. Paint has US Helo Drab. I've not sprayed this color from MRP; however, I have sprayed others and they spray beautifully. They do have a smell to them so that could be an issue if you dont have a spray booth or way to ventilate the area. They come in a glass bottle with a shaker ball inside and come ready to spray. Just some information....

I recently did a Kiowa(72nd)...I found my US Helo Drab had turned sour. Being impatient as I am, I just added a little dark brown and a dab of black to standard Olive Drab. (I use MM enamels...but color is color, right?!!!)

Testor's Model Master also makes it in thier acrylic line.  No one else makes it specifically.

Thanks I'll fool around with that a bit see how it looks. I've been trying to find a vallejo mix I could use as I like the way it sprays. But will see how the tamiya looks I'm thinking I might be a bit too green. From the pics I've looked at it almost looks black.

I'm by no means expert at blending my own colors, can't say how perfectly accurate my mix was. For US Helo Drab I used Tamiya XF-51, (Khaki Drab,) mixed with some Tamiya flat white. I kept adding small amounts of white, until it looked like Model Master Helo Drab. Seemed a good match, looked a bit like an aircraft paint finish that had weathered and faded a bit.
