As you can see there is a panel on each side in each cockpit plus another panel attached to the canopy door of the front cockpit.

Yep, those are armor panels for the aircrew.

John got it right...they're supposed to be armor shielding. Usually they're black in the Whiskey Snake.

judging from the the real-life photos they APPEAR to be some sort of shielding... I am not sure but in the photos they appear thing and painted black, no evidence of any instrumentation etc... maybe some type of pre-kevlar?

I know there are some Marines the in the Aircraft forum who were attached to HMM's that might have some experience with choppers.. maybe they can help you...

Can anyone tell me what the four indicated items in the scan are? I can't find them in my references but I also can't see what purpose they serve on the model itself. BTW, this is an AH-1S.
