1/35 HH-60G update #2
Posted by HeavyArty on Thursday, March 1, 2007 6:43 PM

Here is the latest update on my 1/35 USAF Reserve HH-60G from Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ in OIF 1.  It is just about ready for paint.  I added quite a bit to the exterior as well.  I have plumbed the brake lines for the main gear and tail wheel.  Oil lines to the main rotor.  Six Flare/Chaff launchers and their wiring.  The launchers and their mounts are copies of the ones in the Academy MH-60L DAP kit with more defined boxes added.  These are courtesy of a fellow modeler from Italy.  I have also added the APR-39 antennas to the depressions in the nose, along with the diagnostic hook-up A/R boom light for nightime A/R (thanks Sal) on the right side nose, and latches for the nose avionics bay.  Various AM/FM  and SATCOM antennas as well.

Here it is so far:

Thanks Andy. I'll keep you posted. I should be able to lay some paint on it this weekend.

Here is the HH-60G with its initial paint applied.  Now on to decaling and the weathering.

Here is the original that I am attempting to recreate.

And mine so far...

More to come as it continues....

HeavyArty, looks great so far!!  Looking forward to seeing more!  I want to build a 1/35 Hawk, but no space right now.  In looking at your pics, I saw that rescue Stokes basket inside, did you scratchbuild that, or is that from a kit?

Thanks.  The Stokes was soldered up by a fellow modeler at Armorama.  It is a nice piece.

Lookin great Gino!!

One question.  I looked at the Photobucket shots and was just wondering what you were talking aout when you talked about the diagnostic hook-up on the right side nose?  If you mean the bump below the APR-39 antenna on the right side nose that' the A/R boom light for nightime A/R.  Just trying to understand as I eventually plan on doing several of my squadron's birds (peacetime config., CSAR config., etc.) and thought I missed a detail.  But then again I don't spend a lot of time near the nose if ya get my drift.Wink [;)]

Hey, do you plan on opening her up anywhere?

Thanks Sal.  Yes, it will have all the doors opened up when I am done with it.  I would hate to hide all that interior work.

I think we may be talking about the same thing.  It looks like a plug with a cap on it to me though, hence diagnostic hook-up.  It is the piece between the APR-39 and the landing light in your pic below.

And the white piece sticking out on my model below.

Off to go put some decals on it.  Wish me luck.

Yeah, that's the light for the A/R boom.  Notice the red lense.

I figured you'd have the doors open, but I was wondering if you were gonna open up an engine cowling, or maybe even the tail boom gearbox cover.  Wasn't sure if you'd gotten worn out yet with that other detail.

Yeah, that's the light for the A/R boom.  Notice the red lens.

O.K., now I see it.  Guess it will have a red lens then.  Do they ever have a cap on them?  I thought I have seen them with a black cap on it.

No, I decided that I had done enough detail on this one.  Maybe a future one will have the panels opened up for maintenance.  I still have a few more versions I want to build...early Pavehawk in Euro 1; early UH-60A in Grenada with open exhausts; UH-60L Medevac w/ ESSS and external Aux tanks, Navy MH-60S SAR, Navy HH-60H, USCG MH-60J, etc., etc., etc....... Big Smile [:D]

Here it is with the decals on.  It still needs some weathering and the smaller pieces and details added.

Thanks, but nope, it isn't wired.  It was just a joke for the Aeroscale Helo campaign at Armorama.  Everyone seemed to be posting a pic of their rotors spinning.  So I gave them a whirl and took a pic too. Big Smile [:D]
