UH-1C "SEXY SNAKE" DIORAMA
Posted by apprentice68 on Saturday, August 11, 2007 5:51 PM

Hey guys.As some of you know I have been working on the MRC/Academy UH-1C, trying to build it into a reasonable replica of a ship from the 114th AHC, "Sexy Snake".As I near having the cabin area completed,I decided I want to show the ship sitting in its revetment either after coming back from a mission,or getting ready to go out on a mission.I was gonna build up the engine and compartment similar to the way Andy did on his Mustang 6 build, but if depicted as I would like, the engine compartment wouldn't be open.I have some sections from an old Verlinden premade diorama base. These are some sections with a row of 55 gal oil barrels with a ton of sandbags on top and a section of a steel revetment section filled with earth that I handmade myself. The ship will be sitting on a section of perforated steel planking(PSP)with the revetment itself being in a L shape with the oil barrels and sandbags being on one side of the L and the other part of the L being the steel earth filled wall.I am open to any and all suggestions and ideas, but my main question before I go too much further with this idea, is does this setting sound like a realistic situation and if the aircraft were going to re-arm to go out again ,would it be sitting in a revetment like the one I described?I should add that the sandbag and oil barrel section has a little sand bagged room at he end of it that I am gonna use as the storage area for the rockets and ammo to re arm with.Does all this sound correct? Thanks,Chris

Chris,

Your revetment sounds good for a diorama.  As far as a rearm point they were usually set up close to the refueling point and were usually a sandbagged bunker or conex.  These were some times set up at forward firebases so you wouldn't have to return to base and stay closer to the fight.  There wasn't an area in the revetment for ammo storage that I recall.

Clear Left!

Another commonly seen material used for the heli revetments was old rockets boxes stacked up forming a |_| shape around the heli...

Chris,

Sounds good. Like Mel says, i dont think ive ever seen a picture of ammo storage areas in a revetment. That would probably be asking for trouble! though thats not to say they didnt exist. Heres a few shots that might come in handy.

While the rest of the crew may be in the same predicament, it's almost always the pilot's job to arrive at the crash site first.

Hey all,

Thanks for the comments.I finally got hold of a decent digital camera and have been expermenting and thepics sometimes come out looking a little blurry but I will post some pics of the materials I have to work with and you guys can kinda get an idea of how I intend to build the revetment and you all can tell me if it looks up to speed or if you would change something.Beleive it or not I am cabable of developing my own thoughts and ideas,I just want to make sure I make this as accurate as possible, and value the opinions of those who were there, as well as any others who wish to help. Thanks guys! Chris,

This is the best i can do, as far as 114th guns revetment pics go, (though i expect you already have them) i have a couple of 114th "Knight" slick Company revetment pics but they are not the "L" shape that you are looking for.
