I'm not sure if the Lindberg kit has the same plastic, as I haven't seen it.  I think it is from different molds, however, as the Hawkeye conversion kit's directions mentioned only the Lindberg kit and the conversion parts themselves did not work for the Aurora kit.  The radome required quite a bit of filler, and the sponson ends/caps were both slightly smaller and of a different radius then the Aurora kit.  Also, Hawkeye included a rescue hoist assembly and engine intake guard which were already in the Aurora kit.

But, that's okay, as I now have a rescue hoist to put on my HH-65 Dolphin which is currently drying in the paint booth!

Thanks all for the nice words on the build.

Definately a case of taking a poor to fair kit and making a very good finished model.  Congratulations on a job well done.

Nice job I love seeing more helicopters with high visibility markings.

It would be nice to see a new HH-3 kit, sounds like you didn't have much to work with but it came out well.

Really some fine work there.  Coast Guard does have some sharp looking helos.  I've got to build one some day.

USCG HH-3F Pelican completed

Below is a fun build I just finished over the weekend. It is a 1/72 USCG HH-3F Pelican. The kit is an old Aurora HH-3 Jolly Green Giant, with Hawkeye decals and modification parts (nose radome). This was a much more enjoyable build then my recent HU-25 Guardian over in the Aircraft forum.    (/forums/851738/ShowPost.aspx)

The kit went together very well, minimal seam clean up. Only fit problem was the front cockpit windows were a bit short. And even though not to scale, I built the landing gear as intended in the kit, movable and retractable, for a little bit of nostalgia. I still need to add the flotation bags on the sponsons, as the Jolly Green didn't come with them.

Other then the aforementioned windows, the only other downsides to the kit are minimal to no panel detail (fuselage smooth as a baby's ) and the plastic was very brittle. I attempted to put a little bit of sag in the rotor blades, but had two snap, so gave it up. I didn't try hot water, was a little leery of what may happen.

Good kit, Fun build!
