'Guns a go go' decal sources??
Posted by Tread on Saturday, February 16, 2008 10:10 AM

A big "Howdy!" to All,

I was wondering if anybody knew of a source for some of the 'Guns a go go' nose art decals, such as 'Birth Control', 'Easy Money' etc in 1/35th scale?

Many thx in advance fellas.

Tread.

Tread,

Your best bet is the Zotz Decals sheet in 48th scale.

Hey, Tread - I can look out the window of my office and see "Easy Money" on it's display pad 100 yards away.  Let me know if you need any photos.

Ah, didn't see the 35th there.  Sorry bud, you're pretty much SOL in that department.  I'd say contact Joseph at Fireball Modelworks.  He may be able to do up a set of custom ones for you.

Ohhh my,  Comanche Test...you really know how to make a fella jealous!!  I envy your view there pard', that's for darn sure.

I have seen pics of the restored bird on the web, and see looks great, albeit a tad bit too shiney ;-)  As to your most generous offer of pics...are you kidding?  I would, and I'm sure many aficionados of the original Guns a go go warriors would also, greatly appreciate any and all photos you might be able to share with us insatiable reference material hoarders :=)

I'm not sure how restrictive the display is, but any interior shots would be massively helpful and really add another level to anyone attempting some 'super' detailing.

You are indeed a gentleman and a scholar.

warm regards,

Tread.

Hi Tread,

The interior of "Easy Money" is not open, except for the ramp area, in which the framework has been covered.      The only "original" part of the aircraft is the fuselage itself.     (BTW: I got to paint the Name & Nose Art on the restoration in '00 at Ft. Eustis.)

For interior, exterior, in-flight, & on-the-ground reference photos, please visit my website: http://gunsagogo.org

(How would you like to have a piece of the original sheet metal from "Easy Money" to go with your display?")

    Take care,

     Frank

He's right about the interior - very little of it is accessible.  What I can get are the externals, weapons mounts, etc.  I'll walk around it with a camera the first nice day we get here and shott what I can see.

HOLY MACKERAL oldhooker !!

Where is a smiley with its jaw dropping when you need one!?!.....:-)

That  is one kind and generous offer dear Sir.  And one I am most honoured to take advantage of if the offer is still valid?  I'm just sorry I haven't stopped by the site in a while and missed seeing your wonderful offer sooner.

I'm not surprised to hear that the interior of "Easy Money" is closed off.  Seems to be the case with most military static displays...oh well.

You also said you " got to paint the Name & Nose Art on the restoration in '00 at Ft. Eustis " ?

Wow, can't tell ya how cool that sounds.  It must have been an honour for you as well to be given that assignment on such an historic ship.  On top of that you're the Mod/Site Owner of http://gunsagogo.org/ ?.....most pleased to meet you Sir!  I am on my way to your site right now to gather 'goodies'......thx.

warm regards,

Tread.

...again, the warmth and supportive generousity around here is the very BEST!!

I would appreciate just about any detail photos you could provide Comanche Test :-)

Armed with some of the great photos on oldhooker's website and maybe cross-referencing with some new photos, an old scratchbuilder like me has half a chance at getting it 'right' and hopefully do justice to the brave heritage that the entire 'Guns a go go' crews showed repeatedly in their fine service to this country.

Thx again pard'

For what it's worth, I made the "Cost of Living" decals for Chris Miller's 1/35 ACH-47 last summer.

It's worth me crossing my fingers and hoping you've got another set stashed somewhere that I can purchase??  And, crossing my toes, asking if you've considered {if not done already} a set of 'Easy Money' decals also in 1/35th scale?  If so, I woould like to purchase a set of those as well......

 TIA

BTW.....I have a bevy of tech/ref questions regarding the 'Guns a go go' birds.....should I post them here in this thread, or is there a better place?

Maybe I should just start another seperate 'Guns a go go' info thread?....I mean, you can never have too many of those can you?....... :-)

Howdy oldhooker,

As I've already told you, I have a growing logjam of questions I want to ask about the 'Guns a go go' birds, and I will wait to make sure I am asking them in the correct forum, but I do have one burning query if you don't mind?............

Whatever became of the "Go Go Rock"?

:-)

Okay, I've got 194 Mb of photos of "Easy Money" that I took today.  As others have noted, the color scheme on the displayed aircraft is not accurate and the interior is not visible, so you should check the Guns a-go-go website for accurate info on those areas.  The "Easy Money" photos are still interesting though.  Time has faded its pretty display paint job, but the detail pics may be of help.  If anyone has a good location for posting these, I'll put them on the web for general use.

Hi Tread,

I'm so sorry it has taken so long to follow up on this; tax season has me pretty much snowed under.    I apologize, sir.

If you'd like to start a new thread with the questions you have, that would be just fine because others may find it interesting too. Smile [:)]      It's hard to tell whatever happened to the "Go-Go Rock" at An Khe.    The "Golf Course" was still intact in 1999, but have never heard any comments concerning it.

Here's the last picture the Go-Go'ers took of the rock, made about 2 days after Hue '68, with two of the men who were on "Easy Money" when they rescued the crew of "Birth Control"; Bruce Salley and Jim Bradshaw.

....and here is the same two fellows, 38 years later, by the mock-up of the Go-Go Rock at Redstone.

 Comanche,

First of all, thank you for making pictures of the old girl!    Yes, the paint has faded a lot, but the Go-Go'ers seem to like it better that way because it looks more like it did in Vietnam.    If there's any way you could put the pictures on CD and send it to me, I would be more than happy to put them on gunsagogo.org for all to see.     Message me if you'd like to go that route and I'll send my address. Smile [:)]

   Take care,

Frank
