Anyone know where I can get a 1/24th scale Arm Chair?
Posted by smeagol the vile on Thursday, August 14, 2008 1:07 AM

I cant think anywhere else to post this.  Since my search for a Regal Relyant Supervan III has come up bust, I have turned to my second idea I am looking for a 1/24 scale Arm chair but I have no idea where to look, I have searched and not found everything

I'd settle for a G scale train platform thingy, but I couldnt find one that looks like that... (not color, just relative design/size)

Check www.Scale Equipment LTD.com

They have a huge line of model car accessories, and a whole line of garage stuff, furniture, etc, in 1/24 and 1/25 scale. You should be able to find something applicable there.

my suggestiuon is to scratchbuild one and cover it with textured paper towels to get the velour effect.

I think dollhouse furniture is uniformly 1/12th scale, isn't it?

Smeagol, you should be able to find dollhouse stuff at your local crafts shop, like Michael's.  Or use your Yellow Pages (or internet search engines, like the yellow pages available at http://www.theultimates.com/), look for craft or hobby supplies.

Here's a link for "crafts" in Philadelphia from TheUltimates, hope it works: http://yellowpages.superpages.com/listings.jsp?C=crafts&N=&L=phildelphia%2C+PA&STYPE=S&search=Find+It&SRC=ultimates&channelId=&sessionId=&MCBP=true&CS=L

Hobby Lobby carries it. It's 1/12 scale, but you might be able to modify something else.  If you want, I can whip one up out of a 1/24 scale bucket seat in a couple hours...

Check out the toy depts. The toys and figures for little girl stuff have some pretty convincing furnature in lot of sizes. May get lucky and find something suitable. Don't tell anyone I said that though.Blush [:I]

If you cant find a toy source, you can use the green foam used to hold dry flowers found at a Michaels or Ben Franklins. You can shape it easily to make the chair and cushions.

I've seen some dollhouse furniture in 1/24 scale myself, so it does exist. Failing that, modifying a model car seat would be relatively easy; I've done it myself. I cut a rear bench seat in half, then glued a piece of sheet styrene to the cut-off end, then filed and sanded to shape. It was tedious but worth it. Sorry, I've no pictures--gotta get a digital camera one of these days, I guess!

No disrespect Smeagol, but you're always posting about something you can't do.  Make yourself a chair.  If it doesn't look like what you want, do another.

Easy Mike is right.  But on the other hand, I remember how the whole notion of "scratchbuilding" intimidated me, before I actually tried it.  My first efforts were not good -- no, truthfully, they were terrible ... but you learn best from experience and making mistakes, so don't be discouraged by what you think you can't do.  Try, and keep trying!

Cliched, sure, but still true.  Keep at it.

I think this would be really easy to build. You wouldn't really need much of a skillset. As for materials, well, I'm CERTAIN you could get a hold of some styrofoam, green flower foam (as mentioned above in Michaels), popsicle sticks, and some tissue paper and white glue.

You could use styrofoam, foam insulation, or green flower foam (don't know what its really called), and just a basic hobby knife to carve out the general shape. Alternatively, you could use popsicle sticks to build a frame.

Now, for the padding, you could use clay. Also can be had at craft stores. Heck, even use plastecine if you really can't get anything else. Then, papie mache in the form of tissue paper soaked in a half/half mixture of water and white glue, and just coat it all. Form creases after it dries off a bit, and you're good to go. It really is not as difficult as it may seem.

I never said I cant do it, I said I dont have the skill set right now to scratch build it.  I am going to work on scratch building, but right now, I have about 2$ to my name, if that, im probably in the negatives at this point, so what I have is what I have.  Also, this is for a gift, I dont want a shoody scratch build attempt making it look bad.  Im sure you can all understand that.  If it was for myself then Id try scratching it, I have alot of styrene but no putty of any sort, except for squadron green, which isnt good for bulking up at all.  And I never say I cant do something, I just want help doing it my first time so I can get the hand of it, like that dio I build that Doog and hans helped with, now I know how to do it, I know what I did wrong and I can tell you the next one will look alot better.

The reason I ask questions like this is because you guys have been doing this alot longer then me, I started modeling building gunpla, only been doing tanks for a year, if that, so Im still new to the sites and stores and stuff.  If you want gunpla materials, just ask me, I know a ton of places.  Im looking for links and such with questions like this, I gota build up a list so I can get what I need to do my thing, ya know?

First of all, the maximum range of an excuse is 0.0...Wink [;)]That said...

Got any styrofoam layin' around? Like the shipping pads that your computer was packed in?  If so, I'll talk you through a scratch-bild with the foam, white glue, and a hobby knife.  Get that far, and I'll show you what to use for way under two bucks to upholster...

Just my two cents, smeagol, but if this is being made as a gift, I'd wager that the person is not going to judge it by it's skill or competency, but by the thoughtfulness and the time you put into it......wouldn't you agree?

Hmmmm...if you don't want to/can't scratch it, and you only have $2, I'm not sure what your options are...I mean, anything we could point to for you to buy would probably be more than $2...
