Tiger crew field breifing
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 1, 2003 8:47 AM
G'day folks,
Just posted some photos of my first dio on rons site ( see link below ).
I used a Tamiya tank, Dragon crew, Tamiya soldiers and some academy afv accessories. It's hard to say just how long it took to build, because I am travelling a bit I tended to do a bit here and there. the tank and crew were finished about two years ago! The rest of it, plus the weathering on the tank, were completed early this year.
I am going to improve on the grass at some stage, and add some patches of snow ( some friends mentioned that the soldiers looked out of place in winter gear. I explained that it is toward the end of winter, it's still cold but the snow has melted away, and the crew don't need to rug up cooped up inside a tank most of the time.......... obviously! ).
I also need practice on the airbrush. The tank camo was done with mums ceramics airbrush, I don't have my own because I move around a bit. The next dio is all hand painted!
Anyhow, I'm eager to see what you all think, and hear any tips you may have to help improve my next dio.
See ya, Wacky

Nice looking diorama, Wacky. I especially like the guy with the dog... That's the sort of stuff that make great dioramas.

Nice dio, Wacky!
I like the dog, too.
Don't recognoze the number, but the kill marks on the barrel are Whitmann-esque!

Looks great. I really like the colouring of the tire ruts in the grass. A lot of attention to detail. keep sending more pics of your work Wacky.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I liked the dog as well. I felt the dio needed something to connect it to everyday life, I can't imagine there are many people around who don't know some one with a german shepherd, if not have one of their own.
I used static grass from the model rail section of the hobby shop Cap'n. Once it was glued down and dry, I dry brushed it with a cream colour. It looked good on wargame models with tiny bases, but on this dio, the grass looks too evenly green. A problem easily fixed though.
The markings, according to my online research, are Whitman.
Thanks everybody, See ya, Wacky

It's a great looking dio, but I think the grass is a little to green for it to be winter. I think that's why your figures look a little out of place all bundled up.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?
