I said caked mud b/c that's what you would find on a truck in Iraq. Sure there's not much rain, but you drive through so much crap-water, then dirt .... wash, rinse, repeat ... and the truck never get washed off, that it just gets caked on ... But, that's just how I'm going to end up doing mine.

I think that the build looks awesome, but the only thing that grabs me as "wrong" (and its not really wrong ... and it'll be fixed w/ the weathering) is that the truck and the road are pretty dark, and the building is pretty light for the most part .... so, you kinda end up w/ that ying-yang thing going on. But like I said, weathering the truck and then the final weathering of everything will lighten up the truck and the road.

Are you going to grind up pastels and mix in some real dirt? That should look good.

Plus the glue mixture for the wheel wells, I havn't tried that out yet. I'll tell you how that goes unless you get to it first.

(Maybe you should try out "my" idea for the dio base? LOL)

I watched this video first and then tried out on the hummer just by winging most of it, but it's a good video. I don't remember who posted it but it's good.

As far as a clear coat/ whatever, I didn't use anything. I "smash" the pigments in by using a stiff brush and a stabbing motion. they don't move when you blow them, so thats good enough for me!

I understand the issue with the dullcoat spray. I don't know how much of that dry, dusty look it would get rid of, I'm never sure what to do or how much of a coat to give it. One idea you might want to try Tom, would be an artistic pastel fixative (I don't know if it's that much different than a dullcoat, so maybe just check out the can and see what it's made up of) but it'd be clear and designed to fix pastels to paper/canvas/etc. Again, don't know if it's specially formulated or if it's the same thing that makes up a clear coat spray with a different name...

As far as how to get the look prior to the fixative, good luck!! hahah I think you should ask Will, he's had better results than I- I like the make up brush idea, but I think that would give it an equal, even coat of fine dust- I liked the look Will got with small clumps, fine dust- some cleaner and dirtier areas. He probably just used a small to medium sized paint brush. But that's just a guess.

Guys, maybe this is a subject of an entire new thread here--but--you just made me think of this : Maybe it's the extent(or zenith) of our expertise in a  given field (in this case modelbuilding), that on the basis of what we have learned and achieved, we now have infuence over others (and one another) so that at times, our modeling is done solely through the efforts of the modeling of the other. In other words, the idea is such a precious commodity, that though common, is still above value of everything else, and at times , and because of our connection here, we can exact results by simply suggesting ideas.   In that way models can be built without any further effort on our part.          Wind 'em up,set 'rm down, watch 'em go !    Just a thought.
