Riders on the Storm *dio update 7-19*

Painted a couple of riders for the 2 tracks for the upcoming dio: "Counterattack":

I think it helps tie the vehicles more to what's happening on the ground...

Im likeing this lot Manny, awsome halftracks and figures look great ,only small critique is the skin still looks a bit grainey, are you using enamels for skin? I switched to acryliks and use well diluted coats and it seems to enable a finer coat.Saying that though i exspect they look fine in life size as the camera is unforgiving as to the scale of things and if so ignore my previous remarks.anyway thats some awsome work allround Cheers.

Manstein's revenge,

I am working slowly into figures and I always appreciate fine work and techniques that I can utilize. I really like the camo clothing.

What brand of paint do you use to achieve this effect?

How long does it take you to complete a figure from start to finish?

Looking forward to the finished dio.

I use oils for the skin over an enamel base...they sometimes look grainy when shot at extreme close-up but under normal (and "normal" magnification) they look okay...

Manny,

I am sitting here in Cologne with Jenn, and was telling her about the other thing we were talking about Wink [;)] and so I showed her your figures here and she said "HOLY S***.....Oh my GAWD!"--she was most impressed--as am I, always, by your superior painting. Really, just pure ART, man!

The dio really looks like it's going to be a winner--the vehicles look stunning too! Hopefully, I'll be ble to get a more relazed look at al the projects you've got going here when I get home next week from tour! Big Smile [:D]

Simply soo-perb, as always, and maybe even a little bit more soo-berb than usual. Way to go, Manny!

It's great to see the vehicles and figures together - it gives a lot better perspective of the overalll scene.

Talk to you soon,

Rick

Thanks to you AND Jenn, doog...I'm flattered. I'm working on two dios hard and heavy now: DITCY Part 2 and this one so things are a little slow but I expect by the end of summer to have 'em both done and posted...keep checking in for updates and go easy on the Wienersnitchel and beer !!!

By the way, if you have never walked up to the roof of the Cologne Cathedral, do it.  Awesome view, and you can see where those famous cine and still pics were taken of the infamous "Cologne Panther" that was knocked out...

Actually we DID do that this time, Manny! All 300+ tiny, skinny circular stairs to the top! I'll post some photos after I get home and get settled in.....it was indeed awesome!

We went and sat where the Cologne Panther got knocked out--there's a park there now, a little corner with trees and whatnot....I told Jenn the story, and found a picture online for her. She thought it was cool!

Make sure you tell me the rest of our PM, bud! Wink [;)]

Awesome...best view in Koln---maybe even in all of Germany!!! I found it cool that there was graffiti carved into the masonery that dated from 300-400 years old !!!

I haven't forgotten about that PM either...thanks for looking in!

Manny your figures are first rate as alwaysThumbs Up [tup]. The two on the vehicles are a great addition.

Also checked out your DITCY II and the fact that your able to work on two dio's at the same time is pretty impressive alsoBow [bow].

Thanks, Panzerguy--I usually don't tackle two dios at once, but that flak-truck beckoned me to go aheads with it--also the "surprises" that will be seen in DITCY 2 have really got me excited...

Vespa, appreciate you looking in--as always, I will be setting the bar to your level on paying attention to the ground, whence we all reside..

Mic, look closely and you can just make out Jim Morrison in a tanker-wrap...

Armornut, thanks for the praise--German camo is just so cool...when done correctly it can add a lot to the "feel" of the period...so I try to be as authentic as the scale will allow...

As usual some incredible figure painting. There may be a bit too many of those figures in front, if the plan is to retain them all. Somehow there just seems to be a bit of a disconnect between them standing around idly, and the bit more dynamic poses of the two soldiers off to the side, next to the artillery piece.

Thanks...the figs look very posed mainly because they are all glued down on those wooden sticks...I will have to be very careful though to achieve a realistic effect with the poses, number, etc...the two more dynamic figs may be dropped from this dio as well...the riders will also add more of a connection for the figs to the vehicles...
