Posted by M1Carbine on Friday, October 9, 2009 11:24 PM

Ok so after finishing te King Tiger a while back and being I am waiting on some goodies for my current project.  I figured I would start a dio for the KT.  Here are some of the shots so far of the fgures and some of the base.

Herman has been completed please keep in mind I am no figure painter:

I dabbled into making m own trees this time:

this is the base so far.

Got some more figgies to finish and some more ground work.  As usual all comments and sugs welcome.

Bob

Well on further investigation, I found that after laing the ground work that the KT and such is to big.  So I will just have to figure something else out.  Scratch this one.............LOL

Bob, you did real good with the figure Herman... the face was great and it is the hardest part of figure painting! Thumbs Up [tup]  I also liked the highlights of the long coat.  Only thing I would suggest that you highlight or touch up the buttons on the uniform then you can consider yourself a master! Another thing I noticed how black the belt was... I think it should be toned down a bit unless it has been polished in middle of the battle.

Deaf, thank ou.  I noticed the buttons and belt after I took the photo, Ill take care of that. I also have to get the piping around the hat done. What would you suggest to tone down the black?  I alwas have issues with that.  I got a bigger base for the KT now so Ill work on that in the meantime.

~Yo Bob `~ what's going on here? You made the base too small for the big 'ole panzer ya got? Well, save that base it's looking good(gotta come in handy for something. Look at like practice. make the "real" base even awsomer!   Oh and the figure is very good. You got the face-that's the hard part. i agree the greatcoat looks great too. The tunic could use a bit more definition and for the leathers- I use a dark-redbrown base with some black(or near black {thinned}over it. Depending on what paints your using, a tiny bit of drybrushing with some dark brown on the edges of that black leather might give it a little worn look too. remember ,those belts we're issued medium brown and dyed black for the field.  A little wear through everyday use and the brown starts showing through.  Here's a much lighter version  on this Rusky's mag pouch

See how light I went at first (Tamiya basecoat)

Then a thinned(wash pretty much) of (near)black Floquil.  If I'd applied a little darker treatment here, it's about what your looking for(although I mighta started with a not-such-a-red brown underneath.

Good luck, keep us posted !..............indy

Keep the base dude! You can always "build to suit". Nice job on the figure. I agree with the comments on Hermann. Well done on his face. Keep'em coming.
Cheers

Just like all of my black belts I have worn in my lifetime (I am not that old yet)... at first they are shiny black when new but over years its dye starts to fade away... either brown/tan color emerges out or even gray depending on the base of the leather itself... so I'd apply either color but mixed with lots of thinner!
