I saw what Doog did, and didn't, and I'm WELL whacked out on caffeine. Thanks for clearing that.

 Manstein's revenge:

Actually, I think it is supposed to be mud...Sad

Man, now THAT'S scary---I DID see the whole WIP, and the result, and for some reason, my mind just fixated on that white base in the first pic. Seriously, man--I've got to go get some Expresso at the hotel bar. I'm just fried!

In that case, ignore my boneheadedness! Tongue Tied

LOL!  Get this man some caffeine!!!

Manstein is right, there's no snow here at all, just dirt and rubble. Can you see the last pics?
The first ones are just WIP, i use white plaster as the base of my ground work than paint it to the final
color. I used to use celuclay but got tired of battling the shrinkage.
Although i'll admit i did use celuclay in the current issue of FSM "Easy how to model water"

Doog, I think you need to scroll down in the WIP's---the snow you see is unpainted plaster...

Whatever it is, it simulates snow. Doesn't it?!

Ergo, my comment.  Wink

Really a great diorama with my only observations being that the little armored car would indeed most likely have been in Dark Yellow.

And the other thing--I can't help but think that if there's that much unbroken snow on the ground, that there would surely be some on the vehicles?! I mean, especially if that Sdkfz was knocked out and sitting there...?

Hey NP Vespa boy, i just wanted to make sure i didn't screw up, cuz i usually do on every dio i build.
But what heck its alot of fun building them.

The white stuff for the ground work is 45min plaster mud thats used for drywall. I tend to use this with
foam nowadays.

On the WIP pics---what is the white material you used to build up the groundwork?

I apologize. I did mean cast iron as the material that snaps under stress. My mistake.

Really? hmmm cuz if i look on the net for wrought iron bent, there sure is alot of pics available, and from
all types of causes. Check out this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/maitri/147420172/

And as for the sdkfz 222, it was my intention to show it this way, as they were produced until '44 and
pretty much obsoltete, this one was left for city defense, thus grey not desert yellow.

So it is what it is, most dioramas never depict an actual scene anyway, but i say that mine is possible?

Thank you so much guys for your feedback, i really apriciate it.

vespa boy

wrought iron does not bend, it snaps under stress, so the fence near the prone figure would not bend, but be broken. (the same applies to manhole covers, lamp-posts and other cast street furniture)

Same holds true for the steel plating on the 222...won't bend like sheet metal...the panzer grey color doesn't bother me so much...there was everything thrown in including the kitchen sink in the fighting for Berlin (although I have yet to see a ref on the fighting w/ a 222 in it--or a 221 for that matter)...if it were me I'd probably have used a Neu 250 (which replaced the 221 and 222 for recon work)...

Anyways, overall I really like your little dio...YesYes

Hello!

A very nice idea, I like your dio a lot. My doubt is the colour of the armored car - is Dunkelgrau the correct colour for this time period? Thanks for sharing, have a nice day

There are lots of great details in the groundwork and it looks like you put in a lot of hard work getting the composition in place too. I don't know anything about tanks and guns so I will simply add a few small observations about the stuff I know for next time:

wrought iron does not bend, it snaps under stress, so the fence near the prone figure would not bend, but be broken. (the same applies to manhole covers, lamp-posts and other cast street furniture)

I would not expect that such large pieces of brick and mortar would stay intact after a fall.  I am guessing that there would be smaller chunks and many individual bricks as the mortar is the weak point when stress is applied.

Its a good looking diorama. Keep posting your WIPs.

Cool dio. I love the JS-2. It was the first Dragon kit I built and was very pleased with it.

I probably concur about the grey. I suppose some could have been around in the home front at that time.

Interesting diorama.  One thing stands out - by the time the JS-2 was introduced in 1944, the German equipment would have been in dark yellow,  Not much was left in dark gray by this period of the war.

My last finished project has the old Dragon JS-2 with the old Tamiya German armor car & flak gun.
