DoogsATX

I picked up the Trumpy RF-8 aerosan at the local show yesterday...one thing I do love about the Soviets is some of the weird contraptions they rolled out during the war! Was planning a dio myself, but I do hate how the the included gunner figure is hunched over the gun in firing position. Makes me want to build the thing with the prop spinning and snow kicking off the skids...which...how to do without looking awful?

Have you finished building the Trumpy RF-8? I think it's better than this kit because there are 2 riders, i.e., driver and gunner at about half the cost of this one. I'm gonna post a finished one in a matter of minutes.

Spinning props are easy enough with with a disc of acetate and some "wisks" od liquid cement brushed into place on them..

The "snow" is another matter... IMHO, it's best to use smoke for that kind of effect (same as dust) in the photos you take and just fuggedaboudit as a diorama part...

For your figure problem, that's when it's time to break out the razor saw and make that guy do YOUR bidding...

Like most new release from Trumpeter, parts fit together very well. It is priced at $13.72 on hobbyeasy, shipping to Canada may be $6 - $7, totalling around $20-$21, quite affordable. If you order this one, also order Soviet Aerosan RF-8 which is cheaper (only $ 6.79 + shipping)

Thanks so much guys for your kind compliments on the build. This is in fact AI's second diorama on Russian aerosled. The first one was a pair of Vision's RF-8 Aerosled shown earlier (April 2011):

Trumpeter also offers the same vehicle (RF-8) with Vision but only one vehicle per box, and my other modeler named "pj" has finished a diorama for it . Images will come later. And I still have a unbuilt RF-8 from Vision.

Karl - I think I posted a picture of AI a few time in the past. It's an old picture taken some 10 years ago. I've been thinking of creating Modelers' Profiles to display some info about each modeler and their pictures too. This is AI 10 years ago, he's much older now:

Art INstructor strikes again! A great looking model once again!

Phaisal, you should post a photo of "Art Instructor" so that we can see who this talented modeler really is?

Nice paint chipping and engine detail.

Especially nice seeing it on the base in a winter scene.

Thanks for posting the photos!
