Thnanks, Manny, Vance and Gamera; I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hey wow, how did this slip past me!?!

Great job as usual AJ! Love the expression on the mountain man's face and the startled grouse. Heart

This has a very nice circular motion to the composition. Well done.

I’m just going to assume it’s all a sleep-deprived hallucination until I’ve had my coffee. [Nice execution!]

What a cool and creative effort, AJ! It's definitely something different and outside of the mainstream as we've come to know it here.

Great work, nice painting, and excellent composition!

SURPRISE!
Posted by ajlafleche on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 7:38 PM

SURPRISE! Is the title of this little diorama. The groundwork was previously posted as a sneak preview. The scale is a small 54mm or maybe 1/35 scale.

A trapper, his dog and mule are walking in the woods when they come upon a grizzly bear family. One youngster has found a honeycomb in a dead tree stump and is enjoying a snack. The other is climbing a small waterfall. The dog starts to become protective of his master who is trying to quickly load his musket while holding on to his donkey with his supplies. Two grouse have been startled from their roost by the commotion.

The donkey and pack are from one of several donkeys I’ve picked up along the way. The trapper is a Nemrod figure with a Michael Roberts musket. The bears are from mantis miniatures. The dog is from Jaguar and the birds from Minnie Ball Miniatures.

The trees are from JoeFix Studios with Silfor grasses and other ground covers. The dead tree is a Bayardi casting. The water is a combination of an Envirotex resin base with Woodland Scenics Water effects for the waves. To this, I added bits of cotton to suggest foam.
