First attempt
Posted by toad on Friday, March 12, 2004 7:11 PM
This is my first diorama. It is set after the first light snow on the Eastern front. I realize that the quality is not the best but let me know what you think.

Thanks

My two comments would be this. Little more shading on the uniforms and weathering on the tank. Otherwise a great job.Smile [:)]

The base is the Trax pre made base. The tank is the Tamiya T34, and the men are the Tamiya Russian Army assault infanty. All were built straight from the box. Thanks for all the nice words.

I'm with Puttputt on this. A wash of burnt sienna on the faces of the figures and a bit of highlighting will bring your guys to life. Some shadows and highlights on the uniforms will add a lot, too. Using some dark grey/black washes where you have raised details or panel lines onthe tank will pop those details right out and make a much more eye catching display.

On the other hand, you really nailed it with the foot piints in the snow!

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Nice job, I'm working on my first dio as well. I'm doing it in 1/72 because I've got little space.

Yeah, it is rather great looking. The soviet riders and infantry are cool.

It's really a very good first, Todd. Very good stuff. I'm impressed! To improve it a little, get yourself a bit of Burnt Sienna (artist's oil paint in tube, from your local craft/art store), mix it with a bit of thinner to get a fairly liquid and thin 'wash', and apply it over the 'skin' of your figures. The wash will collect into the recessed and creases and will give depth to your skin. You can also use a bit of the same wash, maybe mixed with a bit of black, to dirty up the 'deck' of the tank, where the troops have been standing/sitting/laying. Those guys did not clean up their boots when getting on.

Nice one Toady ,better than my first effort of paper mache and plastic cream containers(pill boxes)and the old ladies powder paint. A few oils (as suggested) will bring out some awsome detail. Oh yeah ....cool base!!! You could still shade the figures at the stage there at. Best of luck!
