Good Max news: apparently he's doing some hands-on modeling seminars in February and March, so perhaps he is feeling better.
I've seen Ogoshi Tomoe, Max's "student," at several modelling events, but always on her own. She's in HJ regularly, too...but Maxless.
He is one of the greats.

I know that Gavin makes use of a lot of Wargame stuff. Some of these range down to the 5mm scale. I think he used a 1/700 B-24 for the Lady Be Good dio, another good source.

I don't think they do, you can find their work in Hobby Japan and their Books.
They seem to works mostly under contract for Hobby Japan(Bandai).

I too am a fan of max watanabe, though ive been out of the loop for quite awhile(around 4 or 5 years now). anyone know if max, or this guy has their own personal website with their works on it?

Mr. Yamada is indeed and amazing modeller. He's actually a regular host on TV Champion these days, since they won't let him compete anymore!
I'm fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet and talk with "Yamataku" several times a year at various events, and he's a real nice guy as well as a gifted modeller. Seeing his works in person is a real treat.

MM, what's up with Max? He's in poor health? I've noticed he's not in Hobby Japan much these days.

who's max watanabe? is he another one of those amazing modellers that I look up to? Just curious, is there anyone named Chris Wauchop on this forum? I have seen his work online and it is really great stuff.

Ok, here are some pics.

They are big and not too hot in the quality department, but those are pics of the Dio.

Those are quick scans from a book showcasing his Diorama. I learned a lot by studying his books and was lucky to get hold of a tv-shows where he competed/modelled and it was inspirational and an eye-opener.

If you can post any of the pics that would be great. I have seen a couple of this and it is fantastic. Heck, build a model of yourself building models of yourself...

Nice stuff.

The most amazing dio similar to this I have seen in the following book:

The dio on the cover is very impressive, pity it can't be clearly seen in the image.
Might have to do a scan from the book directly.
