Seb, try going to www.hobbylinkjapan.com and look under the listings for Tamiya, they will have the sheets there, and you can look at the different styles they have...

ah,... but thats good to know that it works.

Depending on the project, I may be able to tough it out.

Thanks guys, there is one problem though, I have no idea where to get Tamiya sheets from, my local hobby shops certainly don't have them and I can't find hide nor hair of them on the net!

As for the lentil idea Hatewall, I've tried it a couple of times before and ascertained that it's perfect...if you're patient enough to lay every single tiny split lentil flat side down. I have the misfortune of choosing bigger scenes and therefore get stuck. Anyway, I better head off to bed now or I'll have red eyes in the morning!

Adios,

Seb

I have been meaning to try something. Maybe you could give it a go and tell us if it works.

My idea was to lay down a thick coat of thin pva glue and then pour some kind of bean, like a split pea or lentil and let it dry and dump the excess off. Then, grout it like ceramic tile with spackle or something water based, wiping enough off the top to expose the "stones".

Maybe a small short rice of some kind.

Kancali (www.kancali.com) make a series of rubber matt sections in several different patterns, you could always scratch as well. Take some plaster, make a form out of say some big building blocks or wood, and pour yourself a flat rectangle. you could make it as thick or thin (well not too thin), and when fully cured, scribe out the cobble pattern of your choice.
I've tried the Tamiya paper road sections, and they work great!

Tamiya also offers sheets of different street surfaces, you simply glue them to your base.

What-ho chaps!

It's been an ashamedly long time since I've been on these forums, what with university and all these trivial inconveniences and now I've a little free time during my hols, I've reverted back to my trusty 1/35 WWII figures, dioramas in particular.

My incredibly silly question (as I've asked it before, about a year ago) is what can I possibly make a road of the non dirt variety out of? I've tried the old split pea method several times and I'm so cack handed it never works. The particular scenario I'm working on is based in a French town during summer so painting techniques may also be helpful. Bear in mind the area I have to cover is about 30x10 cm so I'd rather I didn't spend my 2 weeks free laying 1 mil cobblestones!

Thanks in advance,

Seb
