Sorry Glen,a little off topic, excellent piece you`ve built . Most times the best way to start
if new to the hobby or a first time effort, keep it simple and it becomes most efective.
Good work.

Nice looking piece there! Love the mud, looks great among the tracks, the only little thing I would do just to finish it off is add a little more mud to the outer edges of the road wheels, the mud would have collected there as the vehicle was moving.
Love the weathering!
Now, if only I could just do a "simple and quick" build! LOL

Great idea.
Never thought of it.

A couple of years ago, my wife decided to get all new frames for our family photos, she was going to throw the old ones out. They're all in the 10"x14" size range (give or take a little), so I added them to my stockpile of materiels. I was bored one day, so I took all the glass panes out and glued in scrap plywood filler to make about a half-dozen bases for my models. Now I just need to finish the groundwork/tarmac/non-skid on some of them.

Nice build.
However, despite what Gino said, this would not be considered in the vignette class at any event I've been to in the last 25 years. While it might be "technically" a vignette, for show purposes a vignette features 2 or more figures, usually up to a specific number, without vehicles. Both vignettes and dioramas tell a story, more than a tank ins heading for another place or was parked somewhere. As shown, the base provides context and scale but doesn't really tell a story. This would be judged in the appropriate armor class.

Wasn't talking about contest catagories, just simple settings and how he has the base. You know my take on building for contests, won't go there again

Very nice build & great work on the base. I have to agree with Heavy Arty, this wouldn't qualify as a Diorama, But a very nice vignette.

Looks great, but not a dio. A single vehicle sitting on a base does not a diorama make. You have created a vignette. A vignette is a single vehicle or figure (sometimes a coupe figs) that are displayed on a base with simple groundwork. They usually are not trying to portray a story of any type, simply on display. A diorama is a collection of vehicles and figures trying to portray a story.

The base is a picture frame.

For the ground I used some white styrene box (from a fruit shop), Mix-It paper mache, some real dirt and rocks and grass etc from Woodland Scenics.

Tha mud on the tracks is Das modelling clay painted the same colour as the ground.
