Thanks HeavyArty!

your answer confirms what I suspected. The resin I use requires only 1% hardener and it is not easy to measure such a small fraction. Anyway I will repair the damage and use very thin layers. I noticed that the second layer I poured adhered correctly to the first, the problem occured only with the adhesion to the base.

Anyway it seems clear resin is not an easy thing to master (besides it smells very bad)!

I've had that happen before as well. Try pouring the resin in thinner layers so it cures slower and doesn't heat up as much. Mkae sure you don't mix in too much hardener as well. This can also cause the same problem because it cures too fast and expands, creating an airpocket under it.

HELP needed: weird problem with clear casting resin
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 5, 2005 4:13 AM
Hi all,

a few days ago I made my first try at modelling water in a dio using clear casting resin tinted with paint. I got the following weird problem which forced me to remove the resin completely
(fortunately the rest of the dio was not damaged in the process):

the base of the dio was an MDF board coated with a mix of Polyfilla and sand, painted with acrylics.
A few hours after pouring the first layer of resin, some kind of silvering appeared under the resin which gradually extended to most of the base. When I removed the resin I noticed the
resin layer had warped and the silvering was simply due to the resin separating from the base.

What can I do to avoid this problem?

many thanks in advance for any help,

Christian.
