Barbwire and Sandbags..........

FSM magazine had a multipage step by step instructions on making sandbags some time ago. Sorry but I have no idea of the issue or dates.

On rhe wire...soaking cotton thread in half water and half PVA (white glue , woodworkers glue, etc) and wait until it is dry enough to bend to shape works. This only works with cotton not nylon thread and some colouring will be needed to disguise the shiny result.
Finally barbed wire on battlefields was often placed directly off the roll so it has sort of a spiral / spring shape to it.

Hey SS! I feel that at 1/72 you would not see the 'barbs' on the wire. I think a single strand of wire will do-the implication of a battlefield and a strand of wire will complete the illusion.

That is a great way to make barbed wire. There's one little problem though. Two or three of the photos show the wire twisted in the wrong direction. All twisted lines from sewing thread up to and including the largest diameter cables use a right-hand twist. If you use a hand drill, run it in reverse to get the clock-wise twist.

Green stuff is a 2 part putty that you add together you can get it from Games workshop or any good hobby shop.

cheers for the idear on baebed wire ron it sounds like it might work,about the sandbags you say greenstuff what do you mean by that?.

Yep the Italeri battlefield kit has sand bags in them but they are sought of rigid looking try using greenstuff to make your own that way you when you place them on top of each other they will look more realistic.

As for the barbed wire use black cotton glue it inplace using model glue and then once that all dries go over the cotton with superglue this will make ithard and then paint over that.

Italeri make a kit with both of those in them in the same scale. I think its called battlefield accessories set.
