Here are photos of my completed 54mm vignette, The Raiders, based on Michael Roberts' The Pursuit and MB Models Woodland Indian. The bird is a Minnie Ball Miniatures Quail (available from Military Miniatures Warehouse) whose tail I modified with some foil to represent a ruffed grouse, common in the northeast woodlands.
For details on construction of the base, please see this articleat Historicus Forma.
The figures have minimal modifications. All have real feathers from the fly tying section of L.L. Bean. The first guy was designed to be hurdling the log on his left hand. That didn't fit my scene so I inserted a brass rod in his right foot and inserted the extension into the fallen log. His splayed hand no longer looked right so I took one form the spares and added a war club fashioned by flattening some excess white metal and carefully bending it. The blade was done the same way. The next guy, about to jump the stream is oob. The last guy is the MB models figure. The scene in Last of the Mohicans where Hawkeye is running with a musket in each hand always looked neat to me. So I opened the figures left hand and placed a Michael Robert Brown Bess in it. He also has a beaded hair decoration made of thread soaked in thin superglue and painted. A tuft of dyed deer hair was simulated by splaying the thread.
