VW 87 vignette
Posted by JS1 on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 3:27 AM

Hi all

I would like to post my VW vignette. The car is from Italeri and completely painted with oil colors.  The figure still needs some painting, ie on the shoulder boards, his cap and the belt, and I would like to put a shovel next to the car.

What do you think so far ?

best wishes

Johan

Looks good. Could you post some piocs of the whole vignette? and how did you replicate the smashed glass on the VW. Great work overall.

Thanks David.

I make some more pictures later on. becuase the plastik for the windows was very thick, I replaced all of them with pieces of very thin plastic sheet. WIth a knife I make a hole and carved the smashed glass.

all the best

Looks great to me.  I too was admiring the glass effect, especially the crack.  The only thing that I noticed, is although it looks great, some other people on the forums have some great tips on how to make those scratches and chips in the paint.  Just a suggestion though, Ive never been good at that part either.

Johan, A great way to do scratches is to use the tough side of a two-sided dishwashing sponge--rip a section of it off and pat it onto a smear of raw umber oil paint, and then pat the surface where you want to depict the scratches--the result will be a series of tiny, random scratches that look very convincing. Experiment with the frequency and distribution of scratches to get the look yo want.

BTW, the viginette is really cool!
