coolest dio ever

As mentioned, some of the best dios I've ever seen have been done by Bob Letterman. However, its not the sheer scale of his works that astounds me. All of them feature very fine details, superior to the Tiger dio posted above.

 

Noted, the dio is nice, but you gotta look at some other stuff that's available, there's much much better. Tamiya Model Magazine feature some really nice, sporadically however. Also, check out http://www.digitaldioramas.com/ (unfortunately, no longer running now) also had some good stuff, and the Armorama.com website, if you take the time to go through their posted works has some astounding stuff. Also the Missing-lynx website has some phenomenal stuff.

Point taken.  I find beauty in both.  Sometimes those enormous dioramas, even if there is little story, really captivate me.  But I agree, often the sometimes tiny dioramas that depict a memorable and important story seem as if the most care was put into them, and get the most appreciation.  Sort of like muscle cars and modern tuners.  In my opinion both have their beauty, but both in completely different ways, and both deserve respects for different aspects and from different people.  To each their own.

...clarification appreciated, but now you seem to be saying: "bigger is better..." I have been to too many shows where the BIGGEST dio won 1st place, regardless of quality...like I stated before, some of the best dios IMHO are small, even vignette-like...the Japanese are particularly effective in composing smaller scenes...I wish more people were into dios; it seems to be a fading art---I plan on posting some of mine very soon...

True, when I posted the Tiger Dio, I didnt quite mean best ever.  I meant in terms of detail, I thought that had the best I have ever seen.  I cant remember the site, but there was one with some really cool and huge dioramas, on with some ww2 US boats docking onan island in the pacific, and another with some men in a raft smashing up against some cliffs along the Atlantic Wall.

...that Tiger dio on Missing Lynx is decent enough but if you think that is the best dio ever you haven't seen very many I'm afraid...(IMHO)...you need to check out some of Bob Letterman's (of VLS fame) stuff (referenced earlier: Paris Gun) and Lewis Pruneau's stuff, not to mention Shep Paine, etc...and I am one of those that truly believe that bigger isn't better; in fact, the most effective dios are smaller....check out Doi Masahiro's suff, usually featured in Japan's Armour Modelling magazine, whom i consider to be the BEST modeler who has ever lived...by the way, Angus Creighton, of England is pretty awesome too...and he does a/c and armor 

My model car building skills leave much to be desired, so I would love to see a diorama of the starting line at Pomona or Indy with Tony Schumacher and Brandon Bernstein doing side-by-side burnouts, complete with pit crews & vehicles, NHRA officials, and grandstands packed with spectators!

I don't have the skills (or the space!) to do justice to the relatively simple dioramas in my mind... but some of them are AWESOME!

Get the book SUPERDIORAMAS. In it is a scratchbuilt dio of the Krupp factory making the Paris gun, a Place building a advanced U-Boat, a City being liberated by the allies with almost 90 figures and 16 vehicles not to mention the buildings. If I can find the book, I'll post some pics.

not shure wat its called, but that level when you get to drive the scorpion (halo 2) across the bridge?how 'bout the tank running over a ghost while the marine with the rocket launcher takes out another while the scorpion shoots down a banshee? trow in a wraith mortar in mid air seconds before impact? HOORAH!!!

Ahh! yo had to post that picture!!  I had almost stopped being angry they dont make scale models of halo, and then I saw that Warthog LAAV and it alllll came back.  Only thing cooler than a Warthog is a Pelican Dropship, thats tied with the Dropship  from Alien 2.  Im not a big sci-fi fan at all, but I love Halo vehicles.

 

 

If I could make a Halo Diorama it would either be a bunch of Marines dashing out the rear cargo ramp of a pelican for cover as some Covenant forces fired on them, or a spartan and a bunch of marines protecting a downed pelican.  A sort of "Grey Pelican Down".  Hey, that sounds familiar?!

 

EDIT:  In all reality, some of those vehicles dont look too hard to make.  The covenant would be, since all their ships are all twisty and smooth edged with iradescent purple paint (thats aliens for you)  But something like a warthog wouldnt be any worse than some of the other ww2 scratchbuilds Ive seen done. 

Before the National Marine Corps Museum, there was a small one on Quantico that had a giant diorama of theMarines defending Wake Island. It was phenomonal. I mean it was absolutely stunning.

Just look at the attention to detail! theres a bunch of tiny tools in the tool box, and some kind  of instruction manual with images of tools printed on it!

     If they would only get on the ball with producing models of motocross bikes, I'd do an "ultimate dio" of "the G.O.A.T." (Greatest Of All Time!) Ricky Carmichael passing James Stewart at Budds Creek for his 100th overall motocross win! I just watched it on Speed Channel and it was the greatest feat of riding, patience, skill and endurance that I've ever seen! RICKY RULES!!!!
