"Driven into the arms of death" 1/72 (PICS)

Here's a small dio set in North Africa. Moving forward seems to be a bad option, but often that's what war is about.

Wow, the terrain looks great. What kits did you use?

David

On the bench:

1/35 Tamiya M26 Pershing-0%

1/144 Minicraft P-38J Lightning-50%

Numerous 1/35 scale figures in various stages if completion.

David:

The tank is the old Airfix kit. Not a great kit, but cheap and easy to find. The two figures are from the Esci "8th army".

The base was made from sand, pebbles and some dried roots from ordinary grass.

Wow!  I haven't seen that Esci kit in long time.  I used to have the same Esci figures and I may still have some of them in my storage bin.  Dio looks great.

Het Tony, I'm a huge fan of 1:72, so it's nice to see other guys posting some small-scale stuff.

This is really nicely done; agree with backdroft on the drilling of the guns. The only other crit I would dare suggest is to not sink the dio tooo far down into the frame, as you've done here--kinda makes the impression of a model in a sandbox...try bringing the groundwork up nearer to the edges of the frame. Then again, maybe that's exactly what you were looking for, so it's just IMHO! Whistling [:-^]

Question: weren't these Grants painted in a sand color with black stripes?

Really good work on a not-so-good kit!

Considering the size of these things, I think you have done a great job. Simple story but effective.

A very nice dio!

Did you airbrush or brush paint?

Thanks everybody for the response and the constructive comments.

Backdroft: I was just lazy not drilling a hole in the gun, and you're right that the gap between the turret and the hull is definitly to large. I think it was that way on the original - not that good - Arifix kit.

Doog: the dio base is too sunk into the frame. I discovered that after I almost was finished. Have the desert floor higher would be far better. Regarding the color, I'm not sure what the exact color were on the M3 Grant, I think I followed the color of some other model I saw on the internet. I really like building dios in this scale, since it don't take so much time to finish them. When I first took up the hobby some three yeras ago, after an 13 years pause, I did a bunch of dios in this scale, just for practicing on the painting techniques. I also posted some pics of them on this Forum, and I think they still are here somewere.(I'm not to fond of the results though).

Madmike: I painted the whole thing with a brush, since I don't yet own a airbrush. I used the old Humbrol Acrylics and the some oil paints for the wheathering.
