1/32 scale bits'n'pieces
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 12:13 PM
although i've been building kits (usually military aircraft, w/ a "bent" for the unusual; flying boats, flying wings, oddball types generally...) for many years, i've only recently started moving into display-bases and dioramas. i'm finishing a 1/32nd scale Bf109 for a friend, and don't see alot of "airstrip paraphernalia" in this scale - is there such available? and, pardon me if this is a REALLY dumb question, but will 1/35th scale pieces work with 1/32nd? any/all tips and suggestions are welcome here; thanks very much!

I think you would be OK using 1/35 scale generic stowage/cargo items like 55 gallon drums and crates because the size would be approximate and/or close enough. It would be difficult to pose a 1/35 scale Jeep next to a 1/32 pilot or 1/35 scale ground crew personnel next to a 1/32 scale aircraft because of the size differential.

I agree with Rob on most of the above.  I do however disagree about the vehicles.  I mix 1/32 aircraft and helos with 1/35 figures and vehicles all the time.  They are close enough, in my opinion, to not be an issue.  I also am of the opinion that you can mix 1/35 and /32 figures as well.  Not all people are the same size.  Some are tall, some short, and everything in between.  As long as you keep all the gear (weapons, canteens, ammo pouches, etc.) the same scale, since gear is constant size, you will be fine.  It is up to you though.

most of verlinden's figures are somewhat larger than other 1/35th scale figures(if they were in 1:1 scale, they would be about 7 feet tall), so they would work fine if you plan on posing 1/35 scale figures next to 1/32 vehicles.

rob - huge thanks for your reply! yours, and the others, sort of confirmed my gut instincts on the issue; that these two scales aren't necessarily incompatible at all - one can use the ol' mark one eyeball, and a sense of proportion... thanks once again!  paul shimandle

You can actually get away with mixing 1/72 and 1/76--two of the "mini" scales in armor. The 1/76 guys look just like "short" guys, and the accessories are generally so small anyway that the difference is'nt really a big issue. You just have to watch, cuz some of the older 1/72 figure molds are really a bit on the big side anyway, so you just have to "eyeball" 'em, and decide what looks acceptable.
