Hi everyone.
I would like to know if anyone has any success with "drying" and preserving flowers/foilage using glycerin as in the article presented over at armorama
http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=1651
I tried it, and it DID work better than simple air drying that resulted in nothing but shriveled plants. The form is mainly there ( I am drying fern leaves and tiny wildflowers), after soaking the plants between two layers of newsprint for about two days then allowing the paper to dry. The idea is to replace the water in the plant with the glycerin mixture by absorbtion, the cells in the plant wick in the glycerin mix and this preserves the shape, color and integrity (to a degree).
Anyway, the plants will be usable, but not quite as shapely as I had hoped. Has anyone tried this? The hard part of it all was FINDING the glycerin!!!! (not the easiest thing to track down in the US anymore).
Thanks
David
