Time to create

Hey all...finished up this 1/48 Tamiya Rufe (A6M2N type 2) floatplane and could not stand the thought that it should not have some water so I decided to go ahead and do a dio. Talk about some fun! Almost three years from my last dio and first time to have a chance to deal with water. Found some very nice figures from Eduard and a bunch of other stuff. More to go but I think I should manage to get finished in another week...ok, two...three? OK already!...when I run out of beer! Better pics when I sober up.

M1...I used the Woodland Scenics water which I was very pleased with...however the water effects from the same company did not really cut the mustard as far as the broken wave look. I did some brush painting...very carefully...to create that effect. I may have misread the instructions. Who, me! How could that happen?

Where did you get the palm trees? I am looking for a South Pacific diorama I am doing.

Thanks,

That is a very nice diorama, that planes has great salt weathering, did you use salt?

nice job.

Is the hut that is sitting next to the dio going to be part of it?

Captain [4:-)]Thanks guys...Kevin-my wife got the trees from a friend of hers but I can't remember where from.

T-rex-Yes I did use the salt method for the paint chipping on the plane as well as a little scotch-tape ripping.

Dave- righto, the hut is already part of the dio along with other stuff... men, supplys etc. I hope to have it all finished by the end of this week. Will have more pics when that is done.

Hey Tugcap, you sure have captured that tropical feeling....oh for some scuba gear....i just want a dive trip in the pacific now....Sigh [sigh]. I love that water....

I just have one comment. Something that stood out to me. Would that trolley have been used anywhere but on a concrete ramp? I imagine it would be hard to use in sand, especially submerged. To me it looks way out of place.  If i may suggest, but it may be too late, i think this dio would look really cool if you replaced the trolley with a small row boat. That would really add a feeling of remoteness that some of these islands have. Just throwing in my thoughts and intial impressions....... beautiful work overall......Thumbs Up [tup]. Can't wait to see it with hut, figures and supplies..

    mmmmmmmmm..............must go diving.....

Hey Boomer...You have a very good point. Here is what I was thinking: these planes can't land on the beach so why bother using this thing?...however, if the engine needed some work and the seas became a bit on the rough side, they could use it to haul the plane in a little closer long enough to fix things and then ease it back into deeper water. I don't know if that ever happened but but it's the best excuse I can think of...not only that, it's really stuck in there! LOL. Pics of finished product on Friday.

Well here it is ya'll. I managed to get this one finished and it seems to have turned out OK considering that I had never worked with the water type dio before. I think I'll break out my T34/76 and get me a Russian thing going so I can try the snow dio.

I will probably add a few more fuel/water barrels and some jerry cans to this one but for the most part I'm done...time to move on to something completely different. Thanks for looking...I hope it lives up to someones standards.

Really turned out great!! It looks fantastic now with the hut and figures in place. Great idea putting the saluting pilot standing in his plane. Just landed to deliver an urgent message has he?

Can you tell me the kit the figure came from? They look really great and you used them very well. Nice poses for dioramas.

Thanks T-rex and Boomer!

Boomer...the figures, all six and the bike, came from the Eduard kit # 8505. They seemed a tiny bit smaller than the standard 1/48 figures but worked out very well. Keep your magnifacation glasses on standby!   Captain [4:-)]
