"Trouble in the Gaza" -- for Doog
Posted by HeavyArty on Saturday, November 17, 2007 1:41 PM

This is a dio I did a long time ago (10 years??) and finally got around to taking some good pics of it.  I recently displayed it in another forum to show the use of the 1/32 VW with 1/35 armor and figures.  Doog suggested I take some good pics and show it here.

The figures are the old DML Israeli Paras, VW Beetle is an Arii 1/32 kit, the tank is the Esci M60 Blazer kit.  The buildings started life as a Verlinden Middle East shop ruin.  It was two-stories.  I broke it up and used it as two one-story buildings and a courtyard to the left.  Various debris is spread around in the Verlinden method to fill space.  Not the best, but I like it.  Here it is.

More pics here.

As always, let me know what you think.

YEAH! That's COOOOOL!!!

I love the action in this dio, Gino! The m60 squeezing between the two buildings looks massive, and I can just hear the crunch of metal as that "Bug" bites the dust! (sand?!)

The VW almost steals the show--nice weathering and aging on it, as well as convincing destruction under the treads! The m60 is nicely done as well, and the whole scene is very well-composed.

You can see that your figure painting skills have improved since this one, but that takes nothing away from the efforts here--I noticed the curly antenna on the gy with the radio on your photobucket site--nice touch! The ripped curtains in the window too--nice little detail...

The only thing I would question is the TC riding around in the Gaza without a helmet--seems a good way to come home in a box! But 10 years is a long time to make little oversites!

Thanks for posting it! It certainly didn't disappoint! Big Smile [:D]

One cool looking diorama, Heavy...

I remember buying those Israeli soldiers and they were out of scale...closer to 1/32 than 1/35 and the poses were stiff.  Nice layout and overall look...ten years old...doesnt look it!

Really nice- I'm a big believer in signs in dioramas, as a way to make clear the location and time. This is very cool; somebodies gonna miss their split-window!

It looks like there's an sks on the ground behind the car- what are the soldiers armed with? Its hard to tell from these old eyes.

Thanks, glad you like it.  Three of the soldiers have Galils and the kneeling guy has an FN MAG.  One of the Galils has a M203 40mm grenade launcher slung beneath it, another has a rifle grenade down the barrel, and the third is a standard Galil.
