Mini Dio's - 5 in a row
Posted by Model Maniac on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 3:04 AM

Most figures in these mini dio's are newly-released kits from several manufacturers. All built by "Tuk" :

I do like the hand to hand combat viginette. They are great poses. Are they the new Master Box set? A little more attention to the painting of the uniforms(shading and highlighting)would improve these greatly.

I like all of these dios. But this one seems to trouble me a little bit. The way the figures are osed are kind of odd. You have one man who was just shot, an officer who is looking with his pistol drawn, a man loading his rifle and another man with an m40. But over all it looks great.

This one confused me at first as well. I believe that if the figures were set with a building facade it would be understandable. The man looking up is checking out a second floor, the soldier with the MP40 is entering a doorway with the last rifleman and officer with the pistol backing him up.

Haha Iyaayas that made me laugh. No ones going to sneak up on those guys! The bug eyed german looking up looks like he sees a bird 'taking care of business' right above his head.

Thanks for posting these dios model maniac, ive been wanting to see some built examples of master box's new figure sets. I think ill pick them up now, they look good when painted. Ive had a dio idea in my head with thier hand to hand combat set, and the other russian/german sets theyve just released. Very original poses in those kits, and they all have a sense of action to them.

It seems to me that the figures have been plopped onto random bases. There has not been a lot of thought given to how the figures are part of the landscape.

I agree with vespa about the bases. And the third dio with all them looking in different directions is the only one Im not too fond of. Im pretty sure the one soldier everyone thinks is looking up has actually just been shot. But they would look great in a building or alley way.

The dio with the dudes eating is my second favourite next to the hand to hand combat one. To me it looked as though the other guys are talking behind his back lol. Plus it goes with his facial expression. He doesnt look out of place at all. Not everyone always has to be facing the same way and looking at the same thing to fit in a scene.

Many thanks for all kind comments and suggestions! I agree that the bases could have been done better except the last one. Maybe that's the hard part and Tuk had to build many bases at a time. Most figures (#1, 3, 4) are from Master Box which is the most active figure manufacturer at the moment (#2 is from Mini Art and #5 is from Tri Star).

If it is an air guitar impersonation, then turn the officer back the other way, facing the bloke strumming air and threatening him to shut up....

I think all of the dios are good, but I agree that the paint job on uniforms could be a little better.

A little more shading or wash on the bags. But very good.
