Home-made celluclay?
Posted by Deputy_Brad on Thursday, December 13, 2007 9:23 PM
Is it possible to make your own celluclay? And how do you do it? Ive tried googling it but just keep getting a bunch of products and what I could make with them, not really what Im looking for. Ive never used it before and I hear its just a type of paper mache but expensive. Id like to try it out still, plus living away from the city makes it hard to just go out and buy some.

Nah, it's not THAT expensive! And I have to believe that it would be worth the money to save yourself the absolute mess of trying to make it yourself; I mean, this stuff is messy by itself--I couldn't even imagine trying to make it yourself!

Besides, I'm sure they have some "secret ingredient" that makes it so easy to work with; and I doubt you're gona find the formula on the internet--it's probably like the modeling equivalent of "Classic Coke"!

I remember in like 4th grade the art teacher had us make a paper mache type stuff with chunks of paper (newspaper?) and this "goo" we made. It was like flower, water and salt or something.

Anyway bottom line between reactions it could have with paints long term, could attract bugs, messy and just a P.I.T.A. i'd say spend the couple bucks on a brick of celluclay.

I do love it, but it's 5 bucks a pound. My last purchase, I used a HobbyLobby 40% coupon for the 5# brick, and that will last me a good while. But I wouldn't consider it inexpensive.

The last package of Celluclay I bought probably lasted me 5 years. A pound of this stuff is going to go a very long way. Consider, if you use ModelMaster enamel, you're paying $765.44 a gallon for it.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
