Thanks for comments, since finnishing the dio i wanted to do some improvements to the tiger which turned out well untill hair dryer heated things up a bit to hot , warped a bit and not in the startrek sense, You might see it in the future as a burnt out wreck!Never mind.

Wow thats a really great diorama! I really like the foliage, and how you got it to look very natural and built up. Thats a very hard thing to do in most dioramas, and you avoided making it look like plants glued to a base, instead making it look as if all the foliage grew naturally. Good job.

I like it a lot. Sure there are questions that can be raised on some items but the overall impact for me is very good. Impressive work.

As a pure Dio fan and not a builder.....I love the whole piece!

I learn about the drama, storytelling aspects and modeling tips through the comments posted about a subject. Criticism is not a bad word.......it can be good or bad. Usually it is all constuctive.

.....I  was waiting for Doog to ask where the girl is......(inside joke)

Nice work!

Cheers, the tree,s are cropped roots from garden. Some of the foliage is dried and painted herbs from the kitchens spice rack.the wall and cobbles are homemade from bricklaying morter(being a builder). Ilay out a very thin layer on a board and scribe cobbles with trowel and same for stones for wall .When dry i break the wall stones into individual pieces thus creating actual real stones that can be laid and brocken to suit. Its easy , dont cost me anything as i use morter all the time and looks real cos it is.

Figs and the KT aside, I am most impressed by the vegetation and basework. I am going to try one day to translate that to braille scale.

What did you sue for the gnarled treeline, natural roots?

Once again, I do like your dio very much.

Cheers

OH, now,...c'mon, Andy. That's no spirit to bring to a post where you clearly state  "Let me know what you think" That sounds like a clear invitation for commentary and criticisms to help you gain other perspectives and considerations that you may have missed. We're all guilty of being so fixated on the visions in our minds that we sometimes completely overlook things that might appear incongruous or even sometimes, I dare say, ridiculous! I have been somewhat chagrined, and surprised at some of the things I myself have "missed" in some of my dio's that the sharp eyes of my fellow modelers have picked out--and I'm a better modeler for it!

You just concurred with me about breaking the post in half to provide more harmony with the emergence of the tank and its imposing gun. You explained your reasons for the crewman. I concurred and admitted you were correct; it was my misperception. That's the way it's supposed to work. Where's the foul?

As far as your comment about "political correctness"?? I see none whatsoever here. Nor do I see anythng whatsoever about "brown and green vegetation"?? If that arrived via Private Message, you should have taken that up with the messenger.

But perhaps it would serve your expectations better to not post ant more work. It would, after all, protect you from any more comments which do not meet your expectations? I, for one, would find that sad, as your work is really very, very good and your loss would be a loss to the site and the fine modelers here who were only doing and responding in the manner which you had originaly requested. We would ask for, and expect, the same. Smile [:)]

Like Manny said most of what I see is good.Love the vegetation and stone work, look's like you have to water this thing once a weekWink [;)].I like the way you have the KT coming through the hedge really show's off the size of these beast's.

But,if I may be so bold, there are a couple of thing's.first the two guy's to the right of the KT look like their dressed for mid winter while everything else look's like early or mid fall. Also the pole look's outta place and unnatural.

On your KT the spare track's look like their just stuck to the side's of the turret. On the real thing these were hung on L shaped bracket's welded to the side of the turret.

I agree also that you should move the guy off the top of the tank and position him some where else in the scene.

Other than those little thing's it look's great.

A lot to look at in this dio and most of what I see is good! One thing that I always like to learn first about a dio is when and where...since most of the figs are dressed for cold/cooler weather I am assuming this to be in the Fall? Also, where? Battle of the Bulge? There are both green and dead foilage in the dio which confuses me a bit more...

The figs are generally good...I agree with doog on the one fig standing on the turret rear...even if the tank is stopped, what is he doing there? And when they start to move again, he will be one unhappy camper...also, you can see the putty? holding him to the tank...I would move him to the ground...about that pole: to me it is distracting and competes for attention with the lamppost (that lamppost gets around!)...if the story is about lack of fuel, maybe have on of the KT's crewman standing on the engine deck and pointing to a jerrycan in his other hand, or holding it upside down to show: "We are nearly dry."

All in all a lot of fine work...just tighten up the story a bit and don't add elements that don't further the story...also, keep consistant to a date and place so that you and the viewer can take the scene in context...keep up the great work!!!  Dio builders a re a dying breed!!

Hi thanks 4 the comments, I will have to write a piece 4 this dio,i agree about the pole but the bloke on turret i dont as in my mind the tiger had already broke through and had stopped and was communicating with the other panzer crew on where to get more fuel. The man oon the top of the turret was just trying to get a view over the hedge rows. cheers, Andy.
Good point, Bodge! I'm sorry I missed that about the Tiger being stopped! It makes perfect sense then, in that case! Cheers! Big Smile [:D]

Very, very cool, Bodge! A nice sense of action, and well-executed models all around.

If I may, however, two things strike me--the first is the tall pole right near the Tiger's muzzle brake--wouldn't the barrel have most likely snapped that in half? It might be cool to "snap" it at barrel-height, to show even more "action".

The second thing is the guy's pose standing on the back of the Tiger's turret--he looks way too "straight" in his posture to be standing un-braced on the turret of a moving, pitching Tiger like so. I'd get rid of him entirely, and maybe put a guy on the rear deck, bracing himself against the turret.

Great work otherwise though! Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]
