Household materials?

Alright, as soon as I get my 1/72 concorde off of the workbench (shouldn't be too far away now) I can begin my first diorama. Recently I've heard a lot about people on here using household materials, one person made a dio purely out of houseold stuff. I should be able to think of a sh##load of things off the top of my head, but I just can't, I can only think of a few, like foam from electrical goods boxes; newspaper (mache); discarded wiring; metal bits and peaces and vegetation from the back yard. I'm sure there's thousands of other things from around the house that I can use but it's just not hitting me. When other people tell me what else I can use I'll be like oh my god, why didn't I think of that, but anyway. Any input would be fantastic. Also might you be able to tell me what you can use what for exactly (e.g you can use foam as a base etc).? Cheers
At the end of the day one's work may be completed but one's education never!
