Let's praise MontanaCowboy for shoplifting at Wankmart. His avatar says he does it, anyway.

Styrofoam insulation is about the cheapest. If you have a sign supply business around check there. The high density foam that is used for sand blasted signs is great and it gets shipped between damaged sheets that they usually throw away.

Any lumber yard will have large sheets up to 2" thick, and on the cheap.

My lil sis worked fer Wal-Mart while going to college. Oh the horror stories she would tell! I personally wont buy anything from them because they are a major contributor to our trade deficit with China. Screw them.

Walmart stinks.  The originator would be spinning in his grave if he saw what the youngsters have been up to.

Have you checked out any of the local construction sites ? Not sure about where you live in but in the US many homes are now being built using styrofoam board for insulation. I have found many pieces this way, also it is inexpensive at building supply stores. Blueboard is really good....

If all else fails order you up a Home Theatre System, there should be enough there to keep you busy for awhile.

Ditto on the Walmart here also, have not set foot in one for 6 yrs now.

I think Australia is currently under contract for getting some of those Cosmos stores, or something like that, over here. Is that what that other American liquidation store is called? The one that sells like cars and walmart stuff and what not.

Even better than styrofoam is the green stuff used by floral decorators. Check with your nearest florist. There is also a good blue insulating sheet foam available at most hardware/home improvement stores worldwide. It will be near the drywall section. A few bucks for a sheet.

Only buy it as a last resort.

Try your local fruit and veg market. A lot of fruit and veg is shipped in large styrofoam boxes, and i suspect most of them get binned afterwards. You might come away with a truckload of foam boxes for free. Can't hurt to try, the worst that can happen is they might say no.

If you have an arts and craft store nearby, you can get it there in the floral section. A florist may also have some or point you in the right direction.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Yes, I have ...well, boxes of it. Big Smile [:D]

I get it from work before it ends up in the garbage can.

I sent you a picture of the 1.5" blocks. If you want one, then I'll send you one, no problem. If you want a many of these blocks and of the other size, then I'll weigh it, get shipping price from the post office, then email you back with this cost statement.

Anyway, no worries, these aren't going anywhere soon, I hate throwing away good materials.

Thanks for the offer, I'm interested. But I'm not sure how to pay for the shipping, do I pay for it at the post office? Also where did you get the stuff from? You say youve got bunker loads of it. Intriguing!

Where's the best place to find styrofoam?
Posted by somenewguy on Friday, January 25, 2008 9:20 PM

I'm hard pressed to find an adequate styrofoam block for my first dio, I have a couple of bars of it from a dvd player packaging that I can use for hill shaping and stuff like that bus nothing that I can drown in celluclay. Just went down to my local rubber products shop and they don't have anything close to styrofoam. Is there any other place that I can go to that sells it. Or does anyone know if there's any kind of place that would be willing to get rid of the stuff for free or cheap?

Cheers!
