WIP Kingtiger Diorama 1/35
Posted by Mattcooke on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 2:57 PM
Hey guys,

I just started a new diorama with a Dragon Kingtiger. This will be a winter scene which the Kingtiger is driving on a road along side some trees which I'm going to make from scratch. The Kingtiger is almost done construction wise. I'm going to add the tools later. The figures aren't even close to done. The snow I'm going to make with Woodland Scenics snow mixed with Future. I will also still add some figures to the back of the Kingtiger. Hope to have updates regurlarly. This is also my first 1/35 project. I made the zimmerit with Squadron Green Putty and the Lionroar tool. Hope you guys like it.

Excellent zimm...nice base...looks promising! Wow, talk about backwards planning: you have the fancy, engraved title plate before the dio is even half-finished!!! Looks like this is gonna be a winner---keep us posted!

The zimm looks great, really!

I agree with Manny--that's the first time I've ever seen a plaque already on a dio that doesn't even have the groundwork on it yet; man, talk about committed! Laugh [(-D]

Yeah well I know I did the base first and I masked it off now. It just was easier to do it first then afterwards. Glad you guys like it.

Ok guys. I have some more progress. I have sprayed the Kingtiger. First I sprayed a layer of Dunkelgelb then an camo with Red Brown and Olive green. And as last I sprayed white over it. The next step is weathering. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Looks good, Matt, but I'm curious--why haven't you glued the top hull to the bottom yet?

I mean, there's a lip on the bottom hull over the wheels so it's not like that's going to leave you any easier way to do the wheels or tracks, is it?

Just wondering, what's your thinking here? It would seem to me that noew you have to worry about scraping the paint off the mating surfaces, and worry about possibly needing putty to seal potential gaps?

Hi guys,

I know it's been a while since I've posted here. It's been a bit busy since I'm finishing my last year of high school. But in the last week I've found some time to model. As you will see in the pics, I've basically finished the diorama and the Kingtiger. I've placed and secured the diorama in the diorama. There are a few finishing touches I need to make but it's basically done. All that needs to be done now, is paint the figures which I will take my time with. I've never painted 1/35 figures before so it will be a challenge. This is actually my first project in 1/35. Well here are the pictures. If you have any comments, fire away.

Greetings,
Daniel :)

Hi guys, here I am with another update. Not a very big update, I'm a bit of a slow worker, but here it is. I've basically changed a few things that you guys suggested I should do. I redid the trees because I personally wasn't very pleased with them. So I redid them with moss, got the idea from Martin Schuster's site. They are, in my opinion much more realistic. I also redid the snow, instead of using the mix of Woodland scenics with Future and water. I decided to use water and woodglue. Before this the snow gave a yellowish shine to it since our Future here in Belgium is yellow. So now it's much better. The road I gave another look at too. I received some comments about how the Kingtiger was riding in the exact same tracks as it's predecessor. So I made it more realistic by adding mud to the whole road. Well that's what I did, I know it's not alot but I think it looks better. Next I really need to get going on the figures. Hope you guys like it. This is what it was: This is what it has become: Regards, Daniel :-)--<
