questions about Spackle / nail filler
Posted by the doog on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 7:25 PM

Hi guys--hey, does anybody know, can you mix water with Spackle; the "nail hole filler" type and use it like plaster for filling in small holes in a dio base? I want to fill a hole about 2 inces long by 1 inch wide, and 3/4 inch deep...

WIll it dry? Or would the water act as some sort of "anti-catalyst"?

It will dry, but it will shrink...a lot.  Been there, done that.

Regards,  Rick

Why not just slobber it into the gouge as is, from the container? It'll shrink less, I bet.

My wife came home with some light weight spackle the other day. DEFINITELY not gypsum, it is some sort of whipped poly stuff. Very light weight and claims not to shrink. You might try that, too.

Cheers, David

DAP makes a few different types of lightweight hole fillers that won't slug down on you, and dry within twenty minutes. Of course, they don't have the bulk of gypsum or pure plaster, so you can't use it for structural items.

Thanks, guys--I've decided to use regular Plaster of Paris instead. A website I went on said that if you use Spackle in too deep of a hole, it'll take like, forever to dry. I need to sink a model motorcycle into it--you'll see my dio in about a week and you'll understand! Whistling [:-^]

Thanks for the input! Big Smile [:D]
