Mike, the markings are those of Robbie Risner's F-86E. Not any fiction involved except to the extent that I may have comitted errors, but they are pretty accurate compared to photos and I found enough to be pretty sure of them. More details of Risner are on my website, link shown on my first post. The nose of the Academy kit is a bit of work, getting a lot of conflicting parts like the cockpit, inlet duct, nose gear bay, and nose cone all lined up at the same time.
